Texas Officials And Healthcare Workers: “Imminent Ebola Epidemic Is A Certainty” In America

Texas officials and healthcare workers from around the state are urgently warning friends and family...

    James Franklin — October 15, 2014

Texas officials and healthcare workers from around the state are urgently warning friends and family that an “imminent Ebola epidemic is a certainty“.
    This is not a test.

The above quote is drawn from a conversation between the author and a Texas healthcare professional with over 39 years of experience in many areas of medical care (including ICU, ER, labor & delivery) and currently works as a director for a hospice organization. The individual quoted also has direct relationships with members of the Texas State Legislature and staff within the Texas Governor’s office.
This is a developing story, and more details are pending–but here are some facts:
As of noon today, the CDC has concluded a meeting with Texas Health and Human Services, recommending that all hospital employees who interacted with Thomas Duncan be confined to the hospital under protective order. Reportedly, Dallas health officials are resisting this recommendation. This comes as officials announced that a second nurse in the Dallas area has been confirmed to have Ebola. She flew on a commercial airline flight only the day before being diagnosed and is currently being flown to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Two days after Thomas Eric Duncan was isolated at Texas Health Presbyterian for Ebola, he was transferred to the Texas Health Presbyterian facility in Plano, Texas. It’s not yet known why he was transferred.
Patients are not being admitted to the emergency room at Texas Health Presbyterian in Dallas and are being directed to Texas Health Presbyterian in Plano. The Plano facility is now at maximum capacity.
The same pool of hospital staff are working at both facilities on an alternating basis.
Healthcare workers who were on scene when Duncan was taken into quarantine report that they were not physically equipped to deal with the situation and that their necks were not covered at all during the process, though some may have wrapped their necks with medical tape.
Healthcare professionals report that Texas Health Presbyterian in Dallas is woefully unprepared to deal with contagious disease, even in comparison to similar hospitals.
The CDC released Ebola guidelines for Emergency Medical Services on October 1st. Medical personnel that have called the CDC Information Hotline for clarification of these guidelines report that their calls are being answered by people who are not medically trained. Those answering the calls have had trouble providing answers to many questions.
The CDC has not issued any guidelines for hospice workers or those tending to patients within their own homes. The flu season is coming, and yet hospice employees are entirely untrained to determine whether a person reporting symptoms may have Ebola or the flu.
Staff at Governor Perry’s office have told healthcare workers that, in congruence with federal law, the Centers for Disease Control is leading the effort to combat Ebola–but privately admit that the CDC has made hardly any effort to do so.
The CDC maintains a quarantine station in Dallas, as well as in Houston; and yet they have not moved suspected Ebola patients to these facilities.
Not only are hospitals and state agencies unable to afford hazmat suit for medical staff, but most suppliers are out of stock. This comes after the U.S. Department of State recently ordered 160,000 hazmat suits and 5,000 body bags.
Medical facilities around the state report that they’ve been waiting for weeks for N95 respirators that are on back order.
Governor Perry’s staff reports that he is ‘fit to be tied’ because he has learned that CDC is recommending that healthcare workers use subpar N95 respirators instead of N100 respirators because the CDC does not want to foot the bill for the more expensive masks.
As of October 12th, Governor Perry has hurriedly formed an Ebola Task Force that is reportedly being trained at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and will be deployed to the Dallas area as soon as possible. Sources worry that the trainees will not be adequately prepared to deal with the emergency because their training is being expedited.
US Army troops that are being sent to the heart of the Ebola outbreak in Africa are being drawn from two bases, Ft. Campbell in Kentucky and Ft. Hood in Texas. Fears are that when these troops become sick, they will be transported back to their home base.
Texas Ebola cases are on the same trajectory as those in Africa, doubling every two weeks. The WHO reports that cases there may soon soar to 10,000 per week.
Today, it’s been reported that Obama has made the unprecedented move to cancel fundraisers to meet with advisers concerning the crisis.
Those who are involved in the response effort in Dallas are even quietly wondering if a state of martial law will soon be implemented in Texas due to the crisis, although there are not yet any reliable indicators that this is a possibility.
Further information will be reported as soon as it is confirmed.

Ebola News Regarding Wortham's Kindergarteners Infected is False, Angry Reactions

    October 21, 2014 12:31 PM EST

False news regarding the invasion by the Ebola virus in Wortham, Texas, was attacked by furious reactants, according to Snopes.com.

Registered nurses from the University of Texas Medical Branch are on hand to greet passengers and answer questions as the Carnival Magic cruise ship docks in Galveston, Texas October 19, 2014. The Carnival Magic arrived on Sunday after a week-long trip with a Dallas hospital lab worker on board who spent much of the cruise in isolation after possible exposure to Ebola.

National Report, which publishes false news that is sensational and made up, had said that the unused wing of a retirement area in Wortham became a temporary Ebola ward. They had "reported" that when 17 kindergarten students fell ill, they tested positive for the virus after getting exposed to the disease when they shared classrooms with a Liberian foreign exchange student.

The girl was said to have recently come to spend a year with an American family after her parents had got displaced during the war.

Two weeks after she came and tested positive for Ebola, she seems to have transmitted the virus to the others, according to National Report.

Wortham ISD Superintendent, David Allen, was disgusted at the false news. He said that they had gotten 30 calls related to the scare. If you take away time from someone doing their work, you are snatching away "productive time," he said. It took him back and made him wonder why people put up such things that were not even humourous, according toThe Mexia News.

National Report also said that Lindsay Belknap was a temporary teacher, who was in class at the time when they got infected, and was also hospitalized at a local but unknown place. She was quoted as saying, "It was like a domino effect" because one after the other all the children were infected. To fight the false news, Wortham ISD put some processes in place so that they could keep parents informed in case of a real emergency, Allen noted.

The National Report website has the look and feel of a genuine News website, with a layout that resembles Huffington Post. But the stories elicited angry reactions from readers, who believed it for a while. It was shared on Facebook by 7,442 people as of noon yesterday, having only been posted five hours prior. Just last week, the site claimed the entire town of Purdon, in Navarro County, was quarantined due to Ebola, the town ringed by medical and law enforcement personnel. Apparently, the Ebola virus attacks in more ways than one!

National Report has become a real national hazard to American citizens trying to discern truth from fiction in today's news propaganda climate.

Can anyone find and post for us the names of the real people behind the National Report disinformation campaigns???

Central Texas schools closed amid Ebola scare reopen

BELTON, Texas (KXAN) — Three Central Texas schools that closed because of an Ebola scare will reopen Monday morning for students. Belton Independent School District officials say they closed the campuses on Friday as a precaution after two students were on the flight with infected Dallas nurse Amber Vinson. She is currently being treated at the National Institutes for Health facility in Maryland.

Belton ISD hired a hazmat crew to disinfect the three schools. By the way, the Central Texas family aboard that flight plans to keep their children at home for 21 days. People in the small community of Belton never expected Ebola to hit so close to home.

A letter went home to parents of Sparta Elementary School and North Belton Middle School in Belton on Wednesday last week, saying students from each school were aboard the Frontier Airlines flight that was carrying Vinson. Both of those campuses, as well as the Belton Early Childhood School, closed for disinfection. Belton ISD Superintendent Susan Kincannon said they hired the same hazardous materials cleaning team that cleaned and sterilized facilities in Dallas — an approach that exceeded the recommendations made by local health officials.

The decision to close the schools came after the district said in a news conference Wednesday that the students are not a risk to the public and would be allowed to return to school Thursday — in fact encouraging parents and students to go to school. However, they had said that the parents had decided to keep their children at home for 21 days from the time they took the flight.

“I’m frustrated that we didn’t learn until late tonight [Wednesday night] that the CDC was re-evaluating the health risk. The health and safety of our students is my first priority,” said Kincannon last week.

The superintendent added that the school closures will also allow health officials additional time to re-assess the health risk to passengers on the plane. Meanwhile, all other Belton ISD campuses will remain open, Kincannon saying that it is safe for students to attend those schools.

Bell County Health Department Epidemiologist, Lacey Sanders, has been in close contact with the family.

The siblings traveled on Frontier Airlines Flight #1143 from Cleveland to Dallas on Monday and attended classes on Tuesday and Wednesday. They traveled on the flight with their parents and are not showing any symptoms but are being monitored by the Bell County Health Department of State Health Services. The students are considered low-risk because they didn’t have close contact with Vinson on the plane. However, one of their parents reportedly sat within 3 feet of Vinson.

After consulting with local and state health officials and the CDC, the district says there is no imminent risk to the rest of the children.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Vinson, 29, was diagnosed with the Ebola virus. According to the CDC and Frontier Airlines, the passenger did not show any symptoms during the flight. Health officials say that the students do not need to be quarantined.

“They’re not required to be quarantined or isolated because they did not have close contact with her,” explained Lacey Sanders, epidemiologist for Bell County Health Department. “Because Ebola patient wasn’t symptomatic, CDC says the kids are very low-risk.”

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is asking all 132 passengers from Frontier flight 1143, which landed at 8:16 p.m. CT Oct. 13 after a flight from Cleveland to Dallas-Fort Worth, to call the CDC at 800-232-4636.
    Belton ISD statement

    Dear Parents,

Three Belton ISD schools will be closed on Thursday, October 16, 2014.

The campuses that will be closed are North Belton Middle School, Sparta Elementary and the Belton Early Childhood School.

Late tonight, I learned that officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are re-evaluating the health risk to some passengers on Frontier Airlines Flight #1143 from Cleveland to Dallas. At this time, we do not know if this will include either of the two Belton ISD students who traveled on the flight.

The two students attend North Belton Middle School and Sparta Elementary. Some pre-kindergarten students at the Belton Early Childhood School transfer through Sparta Elementary at the beginning and end of the school day.

Canceling classes at the three campuses will allow us to thoroughly clean and disinfect the schools and buses that served them this week. It will also allow health officials additional time to re-assess the health risk to passengers on the plane.

I’m frustrated that we didn’t learn until late tonight that the CDC was re-evaluating the health risk. The health and safety of our students is my first priority.

All other campuses will be open tomorrow, and it is safe for students to attend those schools.

I will remain in close contact with state and local health officials. By law they have the authority to direct our response, and we rely on their expertise and the information that they provide to make decisions.

As more information becomes available, I will share it with you.

    Sincerely,

    Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.

    Superintendent
