Bush ALMOST Got It Right on Ramos,Compean!

It took George W. Bush more than two years to come (almost) to his senses concerning the brutal injustice heaped upon Border Patrol agents Igancio Ramos and Jose Compean.

As reported, in part, at Breitbart:

"In his final acts of clemency, President George W. Bush on Monday commuted the prison sentences of two former U.S. Border Patrol agents whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited fierce debate about illegal immigration.
Bush's decision to commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to cover up the shooting, was welcomed by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. They had long argued that the agents were merely doing their jobs, defending the American border against criminals. They also maintained that the more than 10-year prison sentences the pair was given were too harsh. "

Unfortunately, Dubya stopped short of doing the "right thing," which would have been to grant a full and complete pardon to Ramos and Compean, restitution for all pay lost because of trial and incarceration, and reinstatement of employment with the Border Patrol.

Ramos and Compean should have been released two years ago with a letter of apology, and they should have been honored at a special ceremony in the White House Rose Garden.

However, to Dubya it would be too much to honor citizens who put their lives on the line to prevent American from being invaded by drug smuggling illegal aliens from Mexico.

Had Ramos and Compean been illegal aliens, Bush would have worked 24/7 for their release long ago!

Perhaps a message will still go out to illiterate peasant, in spite of our addled president.

    That message should be:

Invading America is a serious crime that can cause you to be shot. If you do not want to be shot, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INVADE AMERICA!

I think the correct message is. "If you're gonna be trafficking drugs into this country and shooting at our border agents, you deserve to get shot"

Either way. Mr President Bush got it right and has redeemed himself for all his past mistakes, including his failed Iraq war and the war crimes his administration committed.

That's really an overstatement. Bush still has in place what he wanted: Any border agent thinking of drawing his weapon, or even fastidiously performing his duties while on patrol, will automatically think twice.

Meanwhile, Ramos & Compean spent 6 figures on lawyers and lost their careers and two years of their lives, and now have felony records.

That is not a President "redeeming" himself. That is an outgoing official who wants cheap labor to flow in from Mexico, depriving border security activists of a well-recognized point of outrage and issue that unified and motivated them.

I'm happy for the Ramos and Compean families but Bush is still scum. The damage done to the U.S. during his watch, insofar as the millions of illegal aliens we have absorbed during his Presidency, is something that will impact the quality of life in this country during the remainder of our lifetimes.

Our borders are still wide open, millions of additional illegal aliens have invaded since Bush took office, and he was a major backer of amnesty.

His commutation of Ramos and Compean is in no way a redemption of Bush's idiocy on this issue.

    Oh, I don't think so!

He 1/2 way redeemed himself for this happening to Ramos and Compean.

Why would you think he redeemed himself for the war crimes and the illegal war? Please explain?

I agree. I was just so thrilled Bush didnt make his exit with no word at
    all on our guys!

He definitely should/could have done better and he really drug it out to the
    very last, didnt he?

I think deadly force should be used against any criminal, especially
when they are loaded down with drugs. Its not rocket science for most
    of us!!!

What concerns me now is the fact that there have been attempts on the lives of their families. Now that these two will be out of prison they can no longer even own a firearm to protect their families from another attack. I hope Bush has not commuted their sentence to one of death.
