    Hurricane Rita roll call

since Hurricane Katrina I haven't spent much time on the computer or watched TV, but last night I saw Hurricane Rita and it was HUGE! I sure hope that thing weakens before it makes landfall, it's dropped but it still has a long way to go and can build up speed overnight ... I'm afraid Rita will not be the last hurricane of the season ...

how many here are in Texas?

Don't worry it wont. I am afraid what we will see here in Denver during this winter. We have a feeling it will be brutal.

We really miss you too. I don't think it will be the last either, Mamie.
North Carolina and Florida have been too lucky. We hope you're doing well, and that we'll be able to hear from you more.

as y'all know, I've been trying to get a meeting with the governors office and the state reps from my county. The governors aide promised to contact me LAST WEEK about a meeting and I haven't received a call yet even though I've called and left messages.

this morning I talked with one of the State Senators and he contacted my Representative, he lost his home during Katrina and was displaced ... he also works for the state and has been busy with Katrina cleanup in his district so he said it would be a while before he could do anything.

the Senator then told me the Senator for my district wasn't going to run again and he asked me to run for his Senate seat that way I could get things done ... after picking myself up off of the floor, I told him I was not a speaker, I'm a shy person and my heart couldn't endure a campaign and the good Lord made me a helper

Mamie, what I say is, if "they" can do it, we can do it Your ideas and the way you communicate them to people are excellent. If nothing else, maybe you should consider playing a back up role of some sort. (Like Karl Rove!) He runs the country but never has to make a speech

What the heck is that. Run, put the biggest black boots you can find on, and kick him where he will remember it. It is that attitude that plauges the gov.

a backup role is more of what I had in mind. My former Rep said when he went back to Montgomery he was taking me with him, that I can handle!

I guess I wasn't too clear, I apologize. He wasn't being mean, he was sincere. It wasn't his Senate seat he was talking about, it was the seat in my district. His idea was I could get more done on my own than depending on others

Well, I heard last night from my Cousin Bruce and Uncle Bob. They live in Pearland, TX which is 14 miles southeast of Houston. It took them 12 hours to just to get to Houston airport. Now there in New Jersey
