Latino voters were said to have made winners of candidates such as Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown on Tuesday night—but not everyone used their victory speech to say thank you.

California Senator Barbara Boxer went whole hog in thanking Latinos after her bruising battle with challenger Carly Fiorina: She mentioned all the Hispanic touchstones of the campaign, from the infamous TV ads urging Latinos not to vote, to the need to back the Dream Act and immigration reform.

New-again California governor Jerry Brown, on the other hand—who hours before had been watching tortillas be made and hoping la gente went to the polls—gave a shout-out to independents and made mention of “an openness to every kind of person, whatever their color is,â€
