    Can someone please enlighten me?

I am assuming that this shamnesty will apply to every single illegal human being who is currently living illegally in the U.S.

We know that there are between 12-30 illegals from Mexico and Central America breaking the laws, but do we have any clue as to how many illegals from every other country on the planet are living 'in the shadows'???

I have not heard anyone address the OTM's!

I am 100% AGAINST the probationary Z-Visa giveaways and the entire S1639, BUT if they are going to hand out free permanent legalization coupons, they MUST be LIMITED!!! I am against ANY compromise ...but if they MUST compromise - hand out 1 or 2 million coupons for Z Visas and then enforce the existing laws!

What is wrong with these people??? I can't believe this is happening!!!

I don't know that an amnesty pertaining to the Z visa and specifically to immigrant status would have any effect on other violations of federal laws.

Is there something in that bill (1639)that says that all offenses and violations are expunged? Or that general violations of laws are no longer deportable offenses? We need to know exactly what violations are being "amnestied."

This will be an ongoing issue, so it behooves activists to figure out a way to restore order to this country without an unworkable and cumbersome--and possibly conflicting-- grab bag of initiatives. That can be occurring now while Congress debates this particular bill, which I think is going to be very lengthy.

    300+ pages of amendments alone.

You have to understand something here, Ron.

These guys are "debating" this bill in the same way that a car salesman goes to negotiate on your behalf with the sales manager.

    I love that analogy.

The fact that this bill was revived at all-right after Bush put the squeeze on the pathetic androids in the Republican Conference in the U.S. Senate-meant that the result in the Senate was-in large measure-already a foregone conclusion.

What really disturbs me is the reaction of the GOP caucus in the House.

There's around 170-190 members, yet less than 150, IIRC, even participated in the symbolic caucus vote against shamnesty.

    What does that tell you?

Well, here's some legal information. There is still quite a body of law that CAN be enforced, regardless of what happens in the Bill. That's my understanding. Do you have some info to the contrary? I'm just trying to think ahead and prepare for the worst. Most of us know that what CAN be done and what IS done are different, though. But try to remember that there are costs involved in all of this; if you have ever tried to get a government agency to do somethingabout violations you will know what I mean.

If I get too many smart ass remarks I'm going to quit this board.

Here's the law I'm referring to:

It tells me that this thing is a done deal. All that's left is for them to divide the votes between those members in safe districts, who will vote for it, and those who aren't, who will be allowed to vote against it as long as their votes aren't needed for passage.

I'm sorry that took my remark to be "smart ass". It's reality from my point of view.

These clowns haven't even read this thing, yet they're going to vote on it tomorrow.

I doubt very much that there's any serious discussion going on about a bill most of them know nothing about.

One of the dirty little secrets is that the government won't enforce these statutes because it would mean detaining and deporting thousands of members of the federal workforce.

I don't know if you caught The Corner yesterday, but one of the NRO contributors brought out the stats on the number of people working for the federal government-including the misnamed Dept. Homeland Security-who don't have valid SSNs.
