CARY, N.C. --
The Town of Cary is fighting a proposed plan for a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.
Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht and members of council are holding a meeting with neighbors in West Park Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse to discuss the issues.
The proposal calls for relocating the facility in the old Kroger grocery store near High House Road and NC 55.
According to Mayor Weinbrecht's blog, the idea has people in the West Park neighborhood so upset that he called for the meeting.
Mayor Weinbrecht says ICE is looking to relocate because its current lease is almost up and the old Kroger store is just one of several sites being considered.
ICE has leased an office in Cary off Evans Road for over 10 years. They do not house detainees overnight.
According to Cary's website, there have been no issues at the facility besides occasional protesters picketing the facility.
