Cold Case, a CBS television show best known for its great story lines and soundtracks, aired an episode today (3/18/07) about the unsolved murder of a homeless single mother of 2 in 1995.

After the husband's death the mom goes to work at a convenience store for an Indian man. During a confrontation between the two the mother threatens the store owner with calling INS (now known as ICE) to report the illegals he hires to clean the store at night.

When the investigators catch up with the man his store is out of business. The detectives bring up his hiring of illegals and he replies "it's common practice" he continues to say that bigger companies like 'blue mart' do it so he needs to to keep up.

While it was only a small part of the episode I believe that was the first time that one of the real truths of illegal labor was shown. CBS should be commended for showing a real part of society, that companies knowingly and willfully break the law to save money and compete.
