Crackhead Toronto Mayor Has A Higher Approval Rating Than Barack Obama

Crackhead Toronto Mayor Has A Higher Approval Rating Than Barack Obama

November 14, 2013 by Ben Bullard

Rob Ford, the scandal-plagued Toronto mayor who’s been outed on video smoking what appears to be crack cocaine — and who even admitted before the city council this week that he recently purchased illegal drugs — has a higher approval rating among his constituency than President Barack Obama has among Americans.

Just to be clear, we’re talking about this guy, a guy who admits to hitting the crack pipe but has “zero tolerance” for drugs, guns and gangs:

Ford’s approval rating may be higher than it should be, but it’s not high. The Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) found that Toronto voters are holding steady on Ford, who maintains an approval rating of 44 percent in spite of the crack scandal.

Obama doesn’t have a crack scandal (well, not one that anybody’s saying much about, anyway); but he does have a Hydra of other self-made problems, almost all of which have consistently driven down his approval ratings throughout his still-nascent second term. A Pew survey released last week shows Obama faces high disapproval on every policy point except terrorism.

A Quinnipiac poll released yesterday showed Obama’s overall approval rating at 39 percent — the lowest point in his five years as President. Even among women, considered a barometer of the health of a Democratic President, Obama is losing trust, polling a 51 percent disapproval rate compared with only 40 percent of women who approval of the job he’s done.

Similarly, Obama is losing the public trust. “For the first time today, American voters say 52 – 44 percent that Obama is not honest and trustworthy,” Quinnipiac reports. “His previous lowest marks on honesty were May 30, when 49 percent of voters said he was honest and 47 percent said he wasn’t.”

    Here’s more:
“Like all new presidents, President Barack Obama had a honeymoon with American voters, with approval ratings in the high 50s. As the marriage wore on, he kept his job approval scores in the respectable, though not overwhelming, 40s. Today, for the first time it appears that 40 percent floor is cracking,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

“Any Democrat with an 11-point approval deficit among women is in trouble. And any elected official with an 8-point trust deficit is in serious trouble.”

Obama’s approval rating now has sunk to the same figure George W. Bush earned among voters at the same point during his second term, though he’s getting hammered far less in mainstream media for it.

End of an Era: A Look Back at the Best of Crack Smoking Mayor Rob Ford

    Video at the Page Link:

[CAUTION: Some explicit language in the video above]

At a City Council hearing to decide the fate of Toronto’s crack-smoking Mayor Rob Ford, he knocked over a female council member while rushing towards what he believed to be an altercation involving his brother.

I mean, you can’t make this stuff up. Thank you for the entertainment, Mr. Ford. The blog world will miss you.

Even Crack-Smoking Toronto Mayor Has Higher Approval Ratings Than Obama

Posted on 23 November, 2013 by clyde
    via NewsMax

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitted to smoking crack cocaine, has been in “drunken stupors,” and was caught on camera in an expletive-laced rant. But he’s still having a better month than President Barack Obama.
Ford has the approval of 42 percent of 1,049 Toronto voters surveyed by Forum Research. The poll results, released on Friday, came as Ford saw most of his powers stripped by the city council in Canada’s largest city.
South of the border, Obama must wish he were doing that well.

Ford, who was elected in 2010 on a pledge to cut government spending, also has said he bought illegal drugs and drove after drinking. The mayor has been lampooned on late-night TV for his erratic behavior, which includes a drunken rant caught on camera and knocking over a city council member.
Obama has also been the butt of late-night jokes over various fiascoes since his second term began in January — widespread snooping on Americans and world leaders by the National Security Agency, the IRS’ targeting of conservative and tea party groups, and, lately, the botched rollout of Obamacare.
These scandals have caused the president’s approval ratings to plunge to new lows in recent weeks.
A CNN/ORC International poll released on Thursday showed that only 41 percent of Americans liked his performance in the White House, the lowest level in CNN polling. Fifty-six percent said they disapproved, an all-time high in CNN surveys.
The CNN survey is the fourth released this week to put Obama’s approval rating between 40 percent and 42 percent — and it is among several dismal polling results for the president released over the past three weeks.
Obama’s approval rating has reached new lows or tied his all-time lows in surveys conducted by CBS News, ABC News/Washington Post, Quinnipiac University, National Journal Heartland Monitor, and NBC News/Wall Street Journal.
In fact, the CBS News survey released Wednesday put Obama’s approval rating at just 37 percent.
The Ford and Obama surveys were released this week — and “it’s a fun comparison, but not an apt one,” Tobe Berkovitz, an associate professor of advertising at Boston University, told Newsmax.
“It’s a contrast that does a disservice to the level of popularity of Barack Obama,” he added. “It’s basically saying that a clown hasn’t fallen as low in public opinion polls as the president of the United States.”
For Obama, the low approval ratings show that he “has run out of his bag of magic tricks when it comes to going on TV — whether it’s a speech or a talk show — in trying to win the hearts and minds of the American people,” Berkovitz said.
“What’s happened is that you can only go to the well so many times, even if it is the same well — and that’s what Obama is doing.
“Another exclusive interview, another speech, just isn’t going to turn around public opinion. So that’s the crux of Obama’s problem,” Berkovitz said.
The continued problems with Obamacare are definitely behind the poor ratings, Berkovitz said.
“Certain issues a president or a governor can get away with, but when it comes to something that directly affects a citizen and his or her family — unemployment and, now, their health insurance — rhetoric can’t convince someone that the realities of their life aren’t so.”
But Obama’s low scores show something more alarming, Berkovitz told Newsmax: The American people no longer trust the president.
The Quinnipiac survey reported last week that 52 percent of its respondents said they thought Obama was not honest and trustworthy. Only 44 percent said that he was.
The president’s previous lowest marks on honesty in the Quinnipiac poll were on May 30, when 49 percent of voters surveyed said that he was honest, while 47 percent said he was not.
“That’s the real crusher for Brand Obama,” Berkovitz said. “There have been times when Obama’s approval ratings and job performance have suffered, but people have always liked and trusted him as a person.
“The most significant feature of all the polling is that people don’t really trust him and people think that he doesn’t really care about people like them. That’s the price he’s paying for Obamacare.”
Regardless, however, “someone is a fool if they think that there’s not chance that Obama is going to recover — that he’s down and out,” Berkovitz cautioned. “The real question is, ‘If he recovers, when, and will it be before the 2014 congressional elections?’”
The low ratings could easily translate to a Republican shift in Congress next fall.
“The American public is very volatile. They vote against the Republicans, then they vote against the Democrats,” Berkovitz said. “If there’s a slight shift to the Republicans in 2014, there’s always a sense of buyer’s remorse with the American public — and that might benefit Obama toward the end of his presidency.”

Fear Not: Rob Ford Files Necessary Paperwork to Run for Re-election

    Daniel Doherty | Jan 03, 2014

Since there’s not much happening in American politics this week, let’s look at what’s going on north of our borders, shall we? As it happens, conservative Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will seek re-election, despite the fact he admitted to smoking crack earlier this year:
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has put his name on the ballot to run for another term, defying repeated calls for him to step down after admitting he smoked crack "in a drunken stupor." Ford was the first candidate to show up at City Hall when registration opened Thursday for the city's municipal election Oct. 27.
He promised "Ford more years," the Toronto Star reported. He also called himself "the best mayor this city has ever had."
"If you want to get personal, that's fine," Ford told reporters, according to the Star. "I'm sticking to my record, and talk is cheap. You're going to see action like you've never seen before."
His constituents, meanwhile, seem to have very different opinions about him:
Reactions were swift but mixed Thursday after Ford signed up to run again. "That pathetic excuse for a mayor should get the hell out and stop embarrassing this beautiful city," said Inna Evtoushenko, 36, a Toronto resident.
Derek Killins disagreed. "Other than embarrass the hell out of himself and the city as a public figure, has he done anything pertaining to his job that was detrimental to the city's well-being from a financial or economical standpoint?" the resident of neighboring Waterloo said. "Most people I ask say that he's done a good job for the city otherwise."
Since the incident, CBS News reports Ford has reformed his ways, and is now a teetotaler. But although he’s worked hard to reform his image, he’s probably going to have a tough time winning re-election:
"It's too early to tell about Ford's chances," said University of Toronto political science professor Nelson Wiseman of the upcoming election. "Ford's more immediate challenge is whether the police charge him before the election. If they do, he's toast. If they don't, the outcome depends on the vote split. "I do not believe Ford will win more than about 25 percent of the vote whoever his opponents are. It is possible, however, to win with under 30 percent, depending on the vote split."
The Toronto police investigation remains active. "There are still some matters that are being investigated and pursued," Police Chief Bill Blair told The Globe and Mail last week.

The fact that political scientists believe he still has a chance to win re-election is pretty remarkable. It’s not just that he admitted to smoking crack-cocaine, after first denying the charge; his behavior and statements over the last few months have been rather strange and inappropriate at times, leading some to question his sanity. And even if he’s been an effective mayor, Toronto’s city council has already stripped him of any real authority, presumably as punishment for his drunken and violent outbursts. So I ask: is this man really fit for office? I suspect his most loyal supporters, who continue to believe he's funny and entertaining and good at his job -- if absolutely ridiculous -- will back him again no matter what. But odds are those who feel he’s brought too much shame and notoriety to their city will carry the day, and send him packing when the time comes.

Poll: Toronto’s Crack Mayor More Popular Than Obama

    Neil Munro

President Barack Obama has lower poll ratings than Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, the hard-drinking, crack-smoking, tax-cutting, football-loving, partially-impeached populist.

Ford’s ratings have jumped back up to 47 percent, matching his electoral victory in a three-way race for mayor in 2010.

Obama, on the other and, saw his poll rating crash before Christmas when Americans recognized his lies about Obamacare — such as “you can keep your health insurance” — and failed to see any real improvement in the economy five years after his 2009 inauguration.
