Hello, I'm New here
Hello everyone,
My name is Stanley and I registered for this site some time ago but haven't been active on the site. I would like to explain my situation.
I am currently living in Australia, trying to immigrate to the United States. I graduated with a degree in biochemical engineering and felt that the United States provided me with very good employment prospects and research opportunities. I applied to several firms in the U.S. and was offered a position with Bristol-Meyers Squibb. They have sponsored me for an employment visa but I am currently involved in the legal process which is taking over four years now. I am not complaining because I feel that this is the correct and necessary sacrifice to work and live in the United States.
Upon watching CNN and other news outlets, I kept hearing of the immigration debate in America. Due to my situation, I decided to investigate further and came upon the so called DREAM Act. After examining it for several days, I felt that it was offering an unfair advantage to unlawful people when many, many people such as myself are trying to pursue the lawful process. I wanted to express my opposition to this issue but being an international person, I didn't have any opportunity to call your elected officials. I came upon this forum while researching the DREAM Act on Google.
I am very encouraged that your group has managed to prevent the passage of this DREAM Act. Although, I am not familiar with the U.S. legislative process, I understand that a critical action occurred yesterday which is beneficial to this group. I'd like to thank all of you for your efforts at undermining this unfair action. As would-be immigrants, we don't have any say in the political process. It is very encouraging and heartening to see that we do indeed have a voice in the United States. On behalf of myself and all the immigrants trying to come to the United States lawfully, I commend you and thank you.
Kindly,
Stanley

Welcome to ALIPAC Stanley!
You are so right!
Cheaters should not be rewarded.
Also, the illegal aliens are bogging down the immigration process. I guess you could say, they are in the way of legitimate immigrants. Every time they shuffle a piece of paper filed by an illegal, it is taking away time from your paperwork.
Immigration is a wonderful part of the American way but illegal immigration will never be wanted in America. It's not immigration, it's criminal activity in more ways than one.

Hi there Stanley, welcome aboard!
Thanks for the kind words.
Good luck in navigating the CIS bureaucracy - I hope they're able to expedite the paperwork ASAP. I, too, am in agreement that people seeking to come here legally should be treated better - especially, with regard to our historical treatment (or lack of treatment) of those that enter or stay illegally.
While I can't speak for anyone but myself here, I do believe, that most people here would be willing to entertain changes to the legal processes to make it faster, maybe even easier to come here ... once our immigration system is seriously cleaned up. Things are in such a mess and out of control that most Americans simply no have confidence in the government to do what is needed to fix things. Hopefully, that will change, and all law-abiding people - in the country and out - will be the better off because of it.
Best Regards / Welcome!

Welcome to ALIPAC Stanley!
I agree PhredE. The legal path is anything but smooth. I know there were times when my hubby and I almost gave up thinking we would be way to old before all was said and done.
Stanley, I admire you for going about this the legal way. Here at ALIPAC we welcome Legal immigrants with the same excitement as we do citizens. Illegal immigration is hurting you in a way that does not directly hurt us. The more illegals that come here, the less visas for legals seem to be offered. Instead of controlling our borders, our government is letting the illegals run free and putting those who would come here legally on hold. We are working very hard to change that.Proud American and wife of a wonderful LEGAL immigrant from Ireland.

Welcome to the site Stanley .
A few months ago I was so mad that I was checking on leaving this country and guess where I was checking into , Australia !
Temporary insanety of course . Number one I have no assets that would allow me moving across the planet unless I sell my house and small acrage since the economy took a dive and housing market is worse in history I am stuck here anyway .
Lucky you got a job at Scribb . Nothing personal but I read of promotions going on that teach corporations how NOT to hire American engineers when they can hire foriegners for a lot less . Especially engineers from India . Are you orignally from India ? not blaming you it's our own who we blame .
I hear Australia is being over run with non assimilating muslims , is this true ? Are you a muslim ?
Lots of questions ,huh ? I just am curious .

Sounds to me like you are the kind of legal immigrant we want, one with actual job skills that could come in handy to an employer. I wish you luck.
Legal immigration laws are there for a reason. We don't want our employment market flooded with an unskilled or low-skilled work-force that'll hold down wages. Those with things that would add more than subtract to our country should be given a fast track through our legal immigration line, as long as we truly need their specific job skills. Also, those who have the money to create jobs in our workplace should also be given a fast track.
Those who call it unfair need to understand we need to limit immigration to those who will add more than subtract. Low skill employees living on wellfare working for minimul wages don't add to our country. They might add to a corporation, or a farm un-willing to actually pay what the job is worth to do, but they don't add to our country. And if some prices go up because of it that is ok. With fewer low skilled immigrants, legal or illegal, the rest of us should be able to afford some higher prices.
