    Elections

Maybe I'm a little naive, but, how does one go about voting in their party's primary elections? I want to be involved in choosing who's representing my party in the general election this year. Where do I register?...

If you're not registered to vote you would call your county clerk...
I don't know where you are but in this state,Texas, you can get voter registrations at the library and several other places in town.

NC lets people register at the DMV but not sure if you can do it seperately from getting a drivers license. Do a web search for your county or state board of elections.

In NC you can go to your local "Board Of Election", party headquaters, and I believe llibraries as well.

I'm profoundly disappointed and disgusted with Bush on this issue, he talks about Iraq's borders being secured, but then cares nothing for securing his on country's borders.

That's what you get when every day working people stop participating in the political process. The ones that hang around in the party, win lose or draw are the big money boys. So they're the ones that get their way, and pick the guy to run for office. As they say, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." But Nooooo, people get mad, and puff up like a big balloon, and leave the party, thinking their hurting the party and those folks that run it. I know, because I was one of those that became an unaffiliated because I was angry, with both parties. Well, guess what, folks the only ones your hurting is yourself and the country. Look what we've got by people sitting on the sidelines not getting involved in the political process. We only have ourselves to blame for the state of the country. The Democrats are totally gone. They are now a Socialist/Communist Party. The last straw with me, as far as the Democrats are concerned was seeing the American Communist Party endorse, and campaign for John Kerry in the last election. That was a shocker! So their done, stick'em with a fork for my part.

The Republican Party right now is all we've got, sad as that may be. So I'm going to become involved and scream loud and long over what I see is going wrong in the country and the party. I'm going to become involved and try to steer the party in the direction that is good for the country, not what is good for the party. Yes, I know I'm just one person, but it starts with one person at a time. A few of us have joined together to do just that. We are causing friction in the local party because we're demanding a change in the status quo. I'm loving it. I get to vent my frustrations out on the party elite, and let me tell you, once you start going to the meetings and party events, you have one on one access with the party hierarchy. I was very surprised about that.

You say how can anyone change the direction of the party? By becoming a precinct person or alternate and voting. Voting in the party county conventions, state convention and then national convention for the ones that will represent your party.

I would not have voted for George Bush if I had been involved before the elections in 2000. So I blame myself and everyone else that got mad, left the party, thinking they were hurting those that run the party by your departure. That's what I use to think.

But folks, you see what we've got by such short sightedness. The ones that stayed in the party are the ones that are listened to. If your voice of opposition is not there, then it's clear sailing for the big money boys. Your vote at conventions counts just as much as theirs. If we could get more and more so called "little people" to become involved we would out number them.

So please get involved, to save our nation. I love it to much not to fight for it.

Here in Oregon it is DMV, County Court house, Post Office and I think you can only vote in the primary if you are a member of either the Republican Or Democrat Party. Welcome and thank you for being a part in changing the path of our nation. Hopefully this grave issue will inspire more people to get involved.

Each state is a bit different, jlo. TX has already had the primaries. I don't know about other states.

But let me give you a little tip. Go to your state's election pages and read first. If I had voted in the primaries here in TX, I would not be able to sign the petition for the Independents I want on the ballot.

The government makes it difficult for new people who aren't hob nobbing with the big wigs to run for public office. They have to have X-number fof signatures, depending on the office they are running for, to get on the ballot if they aren't affiliated with a particular party. And not all parties are on the ballot in all states. For example, I wanted to vote for a guy named Kusinich for President last time but he wasn't on the ballot here! And you can't even WRITE in a candidate who isn't on the list for your state. It's sort of like a little tight knit circle to keep normal people out. We have got to find a way to unravel that thread and un-knit it before November.

I am registering my only child to vote for the first time this year so he can learn the voting process and that everyone's does count. I am very proud that being a single parent we now have two voices to be heard on the issues that affect all of us

If you feel that way, then know you have nothing.

We have got to get those republicans out.

I've been a republican all my life and I know that we have hit rock bottom now. I've been old enough to vote since they changed the age from 21 to 18, whatever year that was. I was in between the two magic numbers at the time.

The REpublicans wanted the majority of the seats. We gave that to them. Yet they still keep blaming every one of their inconsistiences on the Democrats and they even took to calling their own people ugly names. I t hink it is disgusting and I've seen damn near all I want to see of it. I think they have nailed their own coffin shut and this is going to be the last time you will see a republican president in the white house-- ever.

They have abused their power by holding the border hostage to pass their amnesty agenda and keep a war going that should have stopped a year ago. This administration is riddled with serious inconsistencies that are even more serious than a buffoon who can't keep his pants zipped.

I'm voting against everyone who's in an office I can vote for come election time even if I have to vote for a democrat to do it. We can't be any worse off than we are now.

The only republicans I would even think about voting for are Tom Tancredo, Sensenbrenner (and that's a big if) and Sessions (another if.)
