Judy, you had to have been under the age of 31 on 9/5/12. You had to have been in the country since 9/5/07. You could not apply for DACA until the age of 15. How could anyone figure an exact date for ending the program before 9/5/22-9/5/24?

The program is the 2 year period during which DHS would take new applications. If it was not a 2 year program but a permanent program, then Trump has canceled a permanent program, that's very different than allowing a temporary short term program expire by its terms. Obama renewed the program in June of 2014 for another 2 years, and filed the renewal in the Federal Register. A few months later in November Obama changed the renewal term to 3 years and also expanded the program and added parents and some other people to it. They failed to file that one in the Federal Register which is why Texas and teh 26 states got an injunction, but the court, Judge Hanen ruled that DACA 2012 would continue in effect for the 3 year renewal of the program and until the lawsuit was dismissed, but the work permits would only be 2 years at a time. That means DACA 2012 expired June 15, 2017, which is when the Texas lawsuit was also supposed to be dismissed or resolved. But Hanen extended the lawsuit dismissal date, at which time Kelly extended DACA for an indeterminate period of time. I doubt he filed the extension in the Federal Register so the program expired June 15, 2017 but for the extension to comply with the lawsuit dismissal date per the court ruling.

Bottom-line is, if people believe there was no expiration date, then Trump has arbitrarily terminated a program that he is tweeting has merits and if Congress doesn't act, then he will revisit which means ... it's a mess now, lawsuits will be filed all over the damn place.

    Sigh.
