Thread: Website bug

I am being bombarded with none stop pop up ads, and now my forum theme has revereted back to the original. Think something is up with website.

I have run two different spy ware programs and removed 50 some bad items. And it is still happening.

Yea it even logged me out at one point. the adds still keep coming. Two at a time. Im running a virus check now as well. But it probably won't pick anything up since it's pop up adds.

What do you use to protect your computer?

There are no pop ups on ALIPAC.

If you are getting pop ups when everything else is closed except for ALIPAC in your browser then you may have a work in your system and need to do a complete virus and worm scan.

These can get nasty. Lots of times, a bad worm means you have to reinstall windows.

It's not on our site. You may have picked up something somewhere that is now running its own programs in your windows software.

I use norton, Did the scans and found nothing. Ran 2 differant spy ware programs as well.

W I always get at least one pop up in coming to the website here. But, never while i am browsing here.

They only stop with the dumb pop up blocker on. Which is almost as bad as the pop ups. So who knows, I have no idea where it came from. Just annoying.

Not having problems, but I keep my pop-up blocker on. Since I'm NOT going to click on them, would rather just have the blocker on.

go get zone alarm and secure your computer. They have a free 30 day trial for the pro version. If you choose not to buy it it will revert to the standard protection level which is still better than nothing. It has saved my sorry bums more than once while I hunt down this nasty reality.

If your using Internet Yucksplorer, don't! It is full of security holes no matter how much they patch it. Go to the URL below and download Mozilla Firefox, best of all it is FREE without strings attached. It hads a built in pop-up stopper that works outstanding, you can even instruct it not to install any programming automatically. This means nothing can be installed without your permission.

I am not trying to insult anyone, but for novice internet users I will offer the following advice:

1) Never log on to the internet when using Windows 2000 or XP while on your computer as an administrator (default if you have only one user).

2) Always set up your computer with administrator, 1 or more regular users and a guest account for surfing the internet. The guest account is the most restrictive when it comes to making ANY changes to your computers operating system. If a malicious email or website attempts to install any executable program (virus, spyware etc...) it's not happening when logged on to your PC under the guest user account. You will get instead a terse lil message telling you that you don't have permission to do that, see the systems administrator. If you see it, you just dodged a cyber bullet.

3) A hardware fire wall is better than a software one, which is better than nothing. If you use a highspeed connection such as DSL or cable, you should always use a router with built in NAT (Network Address Translation) that is the hardware firewall, even if you only have one computer attached. If your router has wireless capabilities (most do) make sure you get into the router control panel and shut OFF the wireless unless your using it.

4) Most internet providers allow users to log on to their email account on-line like a webmail. Even if you use an email client like outlook (not recommended) or outlook express (not recommended), Thunderbird (firefox companion, recommended Free too!). You should log on to your on-line email account first and sort out all the junk first, then fire up your email client and download the mail you want to keep. This is just good practice.

Surf safe, surf smart and your chances of bad expierences greatly deminish!!!!!

These are full versions, NOT trial versions! I have been using them for 3 years and wouldn't consider anything else!

Thnx Defens...I've downloaded it and already using it...fast and simple. I've been having problems with trojans being installed at the rate of a couple per day...run the scan and there they are...sheesh...I hope firefox helps with that also??
