Obama’s USDA Orders Submachine Guns With 30 Round Magazines And Night Scopes

    NTEB News Desk | May 15, 2014 | 7 Comments

The Federal Government Militarizes All Agencies

Barack Obama’s Department of Agriculture (you know, the people who are in charge of plants, cows and cheese) have recently placed an order for some pretty blazing firepower. Can you think of any circumstances under which the good folks at milk regulation would need semi-automatic submachine guns as part of their daily routine? No, we can’t either.

Obviously, Barack Obama is not against stockpiling massive firepower. What he is against, however, is you having it to defend yourself.

    Here is the official RFP:

The Second Amendment, in case you’ve forgotten, is not about your “right to go hunting”. It’s for the purpose of being able to protect yourself from the government, which by the looks of things, ought to come in handy very soon.

U.S. Dept. of Agriculture issues request for .40 cal submachine guns

    Wikipedia

    Joe Newby
    Policy & Issues Examiner May 15, 2014

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a solicitation request for an undisclosed number of .40 caliber submachine guns, Guns Save Lives reported Thursday.
According to the request, the federal agency is seeking weapons that are either semi-automatic or fire 2-shot bursts. The weapons should also be equipped with tritium night sights on the front and rear and rails for attaching a flashlight and scope. According to the request, the firearms should also have either a folding or collapsible stock and a 30-round magazine. The request also says weapons should have an oversized trigger guard for gloved operation.
Dan Cannon said the U.S. Forest Service and its law enforcement division is the "most likely landing place for these firearms." But, he added, the Forest Service is not mentioned in the request.
Nevertheless, one must wonder why the federal agency would need so much firepower.
We reached out to Linda F.B. Josey, head of the USDA's Procurement Management Branch, but received an autoreply stating she was out for training. We also reached out to Desiree Clayton, the contracting officer listed as the secondary point of contact. So far, the only response we have received is an automated reply saying Clayton is "not in the office at this time."
The USDA is by no means the first agency to request such firepower. And it's not just guns being purchased by federal agencies. There is also a tremendous amount of ammunition being sucked up by the federal government.
Recently, Newsmax reported that the U.S. Postal Service joined the growing list of domestic agencies stocking up on what many say is an alarming amount of small-arms ammunition. Just over a year ago, the Social Security Administration requested 174,000 rounds of ".357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow-point" bullets. The Department of Agriculture also requested 320,000 rounds. Even the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration jumped on the ammo-purchase bandwagon with a request for 46,000 rounds.
A post at America's Freedom Fighters says NOAA only has 134 agents. NOAA says it needs these agents armed in order to protect “marine resources” and enforce “international treaties.”
"NOAA — really? They have a need? One just doesn't know why they're doing this," said Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. "The problem is, all these agencies have their own SWAT teams, their own police departments, which is crazy. In theory, it was supposed to be the U.S. marshals that was the armed branch for the federal government."
The requests and purchases for high-power weaponry and ammunition have many wondering what the federal government is up to.
“I don’t believe in conspiracy theories, but it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” said Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Washington-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. “The amount of ammunition they’re buying up far exceeds their needs. It far exceeds what they’ll use — they’ll never use it all.“
A post at Truth Revolt wondered: "[W]hom are [the USDA] planning to go to war with?"

Why Does the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Need Submachine Guns? Brewing Western States Land-Use Battle?

    By Norvell Rose
    10:32 am May 15, 2014

AWR Hawkins over at Brietbart.com does a good job keeping his eye on the increasing militarization of the federal bureaucracy. How more and more government agencies and departments are acquiring lots of guns and ammo.
The latest federal bureaucracy to arm up is the Department of Agriculture, according to Hawkins’ story “Dept of Agriculture Orders Submachine Guns with 30-Round Magazines”.
A May 7th solicitation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeks “the commercial acquisition of submachine guns [in] .40 Cal. S&W.”

So, you might reasonably be wondering, why does the Ag. Dept. need such weaponry? Could it have anything to do with the USDA agency, the Forest Service? Recently, in New Mexico, the Otero County Commission defied the agency and ordered the local sheriff to open a Forest Service gate to allow cattle to access much-needed water. (You can read our story here.)
And of course, other Western state land-use issues have cropped up, pitting locals against feds. The Bundy ranch confrontation was the highest profile such case.

Rep. Bridenstine: Why Does USDA Need Submachine Guns?

Posted on Saturday, May 24th, 2014 at 9:24 pm.
    by: Thomas Jefferson

Following the Department of Agriculture’s May 7 solicitation for submachine guns with 30-round magazine clips, Rep. Jim Bridenstine is demanding an explanation.
“The fear of my constituents is that the USDA is expanding outside of its intended mission,” the Oklahoma Republican wrote the agency on Wednesday.
According to AmmoLand Shooting Sports News, the timing of the USDA request for the weaponry is suspect, coming “just one month after the [Cliven] Bundy embarrassment.”
“It seems that the USDA, which oversees America’s vast tracks of forested land, may be preparing itself in the event some cowboys want their heads of cattle to munch government-owned grass,” the website stated.
Bundy gained national attention in April during an armed standoff in Nevada over cattle grazing rights.
The USDA’s solicitation was first reported by Breitbart.
But the farming agency told Politico there are more than 100 agents employed by the law enforcement division of the department’s Office of the Inspector General who carry such weapons, explaining those agents are involved in the investigation of criminal activities, including fraud, theft of government property, bribery, extortion, smuggling, and assaults on employees.
Bob Owens, the editor of BearingArms.com, wrote the response was predictable.
“They will no doubt attempt to justify their purchase of military hardware by explaining that they conduct criminal investigations and may need to do armed raids,” he wrote, adding:
“This is part of a trend to arm every branch of federal government, whether the individual agency has a legitimate need for a paramilitary force or not.”
AmmoLand noted the Government Accountability Office in February downplayed concerns about big ammunition purchases by the Department of Homeland Security.
