If you don't have the data for 2018 or 2019, then you don't know what you're talking about.

Breitbart had a typo and double reported two separate figures for 2017, the second one when reduced to 18,000 was 2018, not 2017.

    From the article:

So the only numbers you don't have are the FY 2019 figures which are for the current year we're in and probably not available yet.

So based on the actual facts so far, this administration has dramatically reduced the number of paroles that would be eligible for work permits, the complete opposite of your narrative, so what gives?
You need to wake up to what is actually going on. Have you not been reading the recent articles being posted on this subject? Right now these folks are pouring in by the thousands and according to the Secretary of DHS they are all being released and it sounds like they're all receiving work permits.

The truth of what's going on is out there for anyone that cares to look. However, there are some that choose to ignore the facts and make excuses in an attempt to make the Trump administration look like it has everything under control or that they have made vast improvements. Well, that's just not true.

From October 2015 to September 2016 (FY 2016), for example, 270,000 migrants got work permits via the (c)( process and another 78,000 migrants got paroled and got work permits via the “Paroled pursuant to INA 212(d)(5)” category. In the next fiscal year of 2017 (FY 2017), the regular number spiked to 403,000 but the parole number dropped to 59,000 as Trump’s deputies curbed the parole number. In 2017 (FY 2018), the regular number dipped to 345,000 and the parole number lurched down to 18,000.
Those are the facts from your source article.

Go back and read the story because you purposely missed some very important facts! I realize obfuscation is a huge tool of yours, but most folks here are onto it. Here's a fact for you: The Trump administration is allowing thousands of illegals to pour across our border right now and are issuing them work permits within 3-50 days when the law doesn't require issuance for 180 days. On top of that thousands are now being bused and flown around our country to await a court date most of them will never attend because they know they won't qualify for asylum.

I know, I know, facts can be pesky little critters at times.

I actually read the article, all of it, which is how I know from the article that since Trump became President, his administration has dramatically reduced the number of paroles and work permits issued to illegal aliens from 78,000 in FY 2016 (Obama) to 18,000 through FY 2018. The FY 2019 numbers aren't available yet, because that's the current year we're in. Those figures will be available after September 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Amnesty invasion: Over 750K work permits handed out to largely bogus asylum applicants

During a campaign rally on August 31, 2016, Donald Trump promised to “immediately terminate President Obama’s two illegal executive amnesties in which he defied federal law and the constitution to give amnesty to approximately five million illegal immigrants.” Unfortunately, almost three years later, not only is the DACA amnesty alive and well, an entirely new amnesty for hundreds of thousands of bogus asylees, which is fueling the core magnet of today’s border invasion, is growing like wildfire. The million-dollar question is why is the administration continuing to give hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants work permits?

A quick glance at USCIS data on the number of work permits issued by this administration for various categories of migrants shows that nearly
750,000 employment authorization documents have been issued to “asylum applicants” for FY 2017 and FY 2018.

While Trump wasn’t president for the first few months of FY 2017, the number of work permits issued for “c8” status, which means those who are enjoying catch and release pending their asylum claims, topped 403,000. In FY 2018, that number was 345,048, which is still well above the levels during Obama’s second term when he began offering this amnesty program in large numbers and applying it to people who didn’t deserve it.

Once again, our laws on immigration aren’t broken, the problem is what the executive and judicial branches have done with them. Asylum was clearly intended for isolated individuals with particularized persecution. Obviously, for those people, it made sense to offer a path to a work authorization while they are in the country pending their asylum claim in immigration court.

But even for legitimate claims, this was a discretionary program, as indicated in the above USCIS chart.

As it states in 8 U.S.C. §1158(d)(2), “An applicant for asylum is not entitled to employment authorization, but such authorization may be provided under regulation by the Attorney Genera,” after 180 days. The administration is under no obligation to issue such permits, even when there are prima facie legitimate claims. How much more so when this is one mass fraud with almost none of them being legitimate asylees and coming in through mass caravans.

Why in the world would the administration continue this policy and even grow it as the flow expands?

The tragic irony is that the work permits are precisely the reason why most of these migrants are coming. Think about how our laws have been bastardized. There is a discretionary option to offer work permits to those who come for legitimate persecution, yet this administration is treating the work permits as mandatory for those who are scamming our asylum system … precisely so they can obtain work!

John Daniel Davidson, an immigration expert who writes for the Federalist, testified before the Senate Homeland Security Committee that most of the family units indeed are not even coming as family units. “A majority of the ‘family units’ are men traveling with one or more children,” testified Davidson, indicating that this is the same old story of men coming to seek work. Except, they are coming with a child in order to obtain catch and release. According to Davidson, “Many of them also have jobs already lined up,” and although nearly all of them are claiming asylum, “many of them will admit that they don’t plan to remain in the U.S. permanently, and in fact have a set amount of time they plan to live and work here before returning home.”

Thus, the ability to obtain catch and release and then work in America is the whole enchilada when it comes to magnets bringing in this latest mass influx of Central Americans. Not only does the law not require this, the administration is electing to continue an Obama policy that serves as the main enticement for the border migration that these very laws were constructed to prevent.

In order to get a better sense of the latest trends, I asked USCIS if they have FY 2019 data on work permits, but they told me that data is not yet publicly available. However, given that the media is reporting that USCIS is floating an idea to expand the waiting time for work permits from 6 months to 12 months, it appears that the administration has continued this practice until this very day. Why not simply end the practice of granting these discretionary work permits rather than debating the waiting time for them? Given that we know almost all of them are bogus asylees and are harming legitimate asylees through the constant clogging of our system, we are doing nobody any favors by continuing this magnet.

Think about the following absurdity: The total number of legal work visas permitted by law is no more than 291,000, with 140,000 permanent employment-based visas and 151,000 Non-immigrant (temporary) visas annually. Yet,
more work permits were authorized for people invading our country with openly bogus claims than all the legal worker programs combined!

This administration has already renewed over 373,000 DACA amnesty work permits since last January and roughly 300,000 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) amnesty work permits for mainly illegal aliens from nationals of Sudan, El Salvador, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Keep in mind, in all three cases, the laws were written for the expressed purpose of protecting Americans from such immigration fraud. Obama breached the laws, the courts mandated them, and now this administration has, thus far, continued them with interest.

How Long Does a U.S. Work Permit Last?

Learn about typical expiration periods for U.S. employment authorization documents.

    By Ilona Bray, J.D.

A "work permit" is the commonly used name for an Employment Authorization Document, or EAD, issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to certain people who are in the United States and legally permitted to work here.

It is a plastic-laminated identity card with the alien's name, photo, and an expiration date.

How long the work permit lasts depends on your current immigration status, or what type of visa you are here on.

Most EADs are valid for one year.
Obviously, however, no person will be given a work permit that lasts longer than their permitted stay in the United States.

So, for example, someone who arrives in the U.S. with a fiancé visa (K-1) and applies for a work permit will receive one that lasts only until the 90-day termination of that person’s K-1 visa.

Although it might sound like this would create problems for fiancés who plan to apply for green cards after marriage and stay in the United States, it actually doesn’t. That’s because the fiance can simply apply to adjust status as soon as they’ve gotten married, and then apply for an EAD that lasts even longer, at that time.

Some applicants may renew their work permits if their stay has been extended or lasts longer than the original work permit did.

Note that not everyone who has a right to work in the United States needs to apply for a work permit.

For example, most people admitted to the U.S. on temporary work visas for specific employers, such as H-1B visas, need not (and should not) apply for an EAD.
They can go straight to Social Security and get a card.

The magnet is the law that allows them to come here as asylum seekers, be admitted, and file a claim for asylum. Just change the law to forbid entry on an asylum claim. There are years and years of evidence that none of what we have now is needed or appropriate. You can count the real "asylum seekers" on 2 hands. The rest are all frauds and phonies claiming fear of poverty, crime, domestic violence, cartels, gangs or whatever which has nothing whatsoever to do with persecution by their governments. When laws written for one purpose end up being exploited for other purposes, it's time to change the laws so they won't be exploited. In the case of the US, there is no basis whatsoever for any asylum in the United States. Every person who seeks or actually needs asylum has a neighboring country they can "flee" to for safety, and none of those countries border the United States. So just wake up and stop it all.

Something else to keep in mind is that you can not expect the government bureaucracy that feeds itself with volumes of problems to correct or solve the problems that feed the bureaucracy. The more problems on the border, the larger the financial and funding requests for Border Patrol. The more problems with asylum claims and TPS and whatever, the more money and revenue for those who process them, the more funding required to deal with it, the more money for DOJ who holds the hearings, the more and more and more and the people in those agencies benefit from all of this. It's like teachers and public education, who love illegal aliens. Why? Because the more illegal aliens, the more feeding of the beast they live on, the more teachers, the more facilities, the more funding from states and federal government, the more free school lunch from USDA, the more, the more, the more.

No one can realistically expect the agencies to solve these types of problems. Take law enforcement in sanctuary cities who want illegal aliens to "trust" them. Since when do law enforcement agencies want criminals to "trust" them? The more illegal aliens, the more crime, the more police officers, the more, the more, the more.

Years ago I worked in state government in a common sense state where if you didn't produce the results, you didn't get more money, you didn't get a bigger budget, you got fired and replaced by someone who could do the job and get the results you were already paid to deliver.
