Do not allow Michael Chertoff to fool you.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced Wednesday that tough border security measures championed by the Bush administration had significantly reduced the number of illegal immigrants crossing into the United States from Mexico for the first time in several years.
Chertoff pointed to recent apprehension figures to bolster his assertion, saying that the number of Mexicans captured in June and July had dipped to the lowest level for that two-month period since the fiscal year 2002. He said that the number of non-Mexican immigrants apprehended during June and July had dropped to the lowest level for that period since the fiscal year 2004.
Chertoff attributed the decline to President Bush's decision to deploy National Guard troops on the border and to an increase in the number of beds in detention centers.
Do You see What is Going on.!! President Bush is still trying to push his amnesty plan, (He does not give up does he?), In his efforts to fool you, first he comes up with a plan to put 5000 national guard on the border, then now he let his Mouth Pieces announce that the border now is more secure than ever!! really? he thinks that now American will give him the Ok to go ahead with the Amnesty plan since enforcement doing so good now according to him!!! No please do not let them Scam you, it is all Propaganda. Give him the ok for amnesty and suddenly no more enforcement. we need a permanent solution no cheap talk.

I agree that Chertoff is just a mouthpiece for Bush. Speaking of securing the Border, I found the following on the American Patrol Website that I find interesting.
Nowhere to be Found
Following a daytime survey of the entire California/ Mexico border last Tuesday, American Border Patrol reports that it found no evidence of National Guard on the border, with the exception of two small construction crews. Other than lookouts near Yuma, ABP reports little or no guard presence in Arizona as well.
ABP did report spotting what appeared to be a Minuteman Compound right on the border between Tecate and Jacumba.
ABP is preparing a more detailed report, including a video survey for release later today.

Pandabear,
I agree with you that a lot of people come here on Visas then Overstay it and something has to be done about it. I just worry a litle more now about the thousands coming in Unchecked through our borders and not only Mexican, some terrorists may be aswell. Our government is so incompetent when it come to enforcing the illegal immigration laws, that I will be happy if they start at the border, that does not mean breaking a visa is any better but at least there is some kind of paperwork or background check that presioumably was done by the US consulate in the country they came from. Just my opinion.
