Prehaps they want it so they can claim racism everytime a cop pulls them over or tickets them? And god forbid you accidently hit them, that's now a hate crime.

You should write them a very polite and professional e-mail asking if they would allow the KKK, Aryan Nation, The Black Panthers, The Brown Berets, The American Nazi Party and other racist organizations to have their own plates just like The National Council of the Race does.

Kudos to American_made for putting this on the 'radar' here.

I also am in/from Oregon. Maybe you other Oregonians can help me out here - it's been a couple years since this happened...

A similar type story was kicked around in the local news here regarding another 'custom license plate issue' and conformity with OR DMV regs, 'free speech', etc. Basically - and std. disclaimer applied that this is all from memory (which is generally pretty good, but nonetheless...) - anyway, several years ago another OR person had applied for a custom plate mentioning the word 'Wine' in it.

Further, if I recall correctly, this person was either a vineyard owner or promoter of fine wines and simply wanted to promote the product - not necessarily endorse unfettered alcohol consumption.

The OR DMV DENIED that person's application for such a custom plate.
(noting that I suppose reasonable people can see the issue 50/50 - for whatever reason...) but, there you have it:

Mentioning 'Wine' on a custom plate = 'bad'
Mentioning 'The Race' (translated) on a custom plate = 'ok'

Go figure. I think I need to write in a response to Ms. Bowman as well and remind that this is approaching absurdity.

Maybe other Oregonians tuned in here can do the same....

Ms. Bowman:

In reading the article on ALIPAC with regards to your
DMV issuing a plate to a driver that reads LARAZA it
is insulting that your registry would issue a plate
stating the name of an organization that is supported
by radical groups who encourage their members to rise
up and kill the gringo if necessary. We american
citizens will not allow our country to be taken over
by illegal aliens and do take action when it is
discovered that government agencies support groups
that encourage their members to violently if necessary
preserve their illegal presence in this country. They
have no rights in this country and you have no right
to issue a plate like that. Your poor judgement in
issuing and defending the issuance of a plate that
states the name of a group that supports the downfall
of our country by illegal aliens does not stand by the
Registry of Motor Vehicles rule of not taking sides
and not putting anything racial or lewd on its plates.
Might want to rethink this one.

The plate was VINO and you are correct the Individual owned a vineyard. I am hoping this is a baby step in getting the illegal drivers licenses revoked. One step at a time. Thank you all so much for your help. It is truly appreciated.
