60's Hippie Movement
Remember the 1960's an age of rebellion, peace and love. They were against authority, the government, the vietnam war, etc. They were sympathetic towards minorities during the civil rights movement and fought for equal rights. These are the same people now in charge of our government, yes they are now in their late 50's-early 60's.

Ya.... you're right. I'm a late boomer myself and I don't know what happened. Definatly against the government because we could see the lies and such. I was in 7th grade when they abolished the dress code. And yes, against the war but not the servicemen and women. Some were, but I wasn't one of them. Yes to all you said. Just never knew things would be taken to such extreems. Greed was frowned upon so I don't know where these guys came from or how they ended up like they are. Good plan gone bad or maybe their brains got fried with some bad drugs. It baffles me. I loved growing up in that time being a part of alot of positive changes. Just never knew or intended it to go this way on alot of things. Guess we still had common sense and some moral beliefs and just never thought it all through with evil in the picture.
I just wanted to wear jeans to school. Never thought in a million years it would be abused to going half naked. With freedom comes responsibility and I think we understood that and expected that to always be there. Little did we know............The fantasy vs the reality.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Look up the meaning of the words from the song "American Pie" by Don McLean.
Very interesting and insightful!

My husband and I were talking about this very same issue. Although I was born in 1958. I remember my grandparents often saying how happy they were knowing that they wouldn't be around when our generation started running the country. At the time I had no idea what they meant, but I sure understand now.

Long hair, Flower Power, hippie vans and hippie shacks,Lsd and taking the high fly. No wonder your grandparents were afraid of that generation. I remember my mother taking me to downtown Phoenix to see the hippie shacks. I was about 15 at the time and I thought how scary to live like that, they were all college age.

That's true, they thought they had the power to make the world a better place and they searched for a cause and they fought with everything inside of them for that cause. No, I am not one of them but I was old enough to watch them on tv, supporting the civil rights movement, protesting the vietnam war, etc. There was enough of them that they had the spotlight.
