THE DREAM ACT – SECOND VERSE, SAME AS THE FIRST

George Santayana noted that “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Apparently, Republicans refuse to learn from their past. They’re lurching toward another disastrous illegal alien amnesty. What’s worse, it is unclear why they’re rushing to sell-out the American public, when their party controls the House, the Senate, and the White House.

The Department of Justice has formally announced the cancellation of theDeferred Action for Children of Aliens (DACA) program. DACA was an unconstitutional attempt to impose an illegal alien amnesty by executive fiat. During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised to overturn the program on his first day in office. However, after winning the White House, hewaffled on the issue, expressing sympathy for the beneficiaries of the DACA program.

President Trump has finally honored his campaign pledge – sort of. The administration has stopped accepting new DACA applications. But it appears that, despite its termination, DACA just isn’t going to die. Congress has signaled that it may consider a legislative amnesty for all those covered under the program. And, the President, who has described the DACA beneficiaries as“incredible kids,” is highly unlikely to veto a bill that grants them legal status.

A handful of Republican legislators have already proposed a new version of the failed “DREAM Act,” a 2010 legislative amnesty that would have covered illegal aliens brought here as kids. The original DREAM Act flopped because Republican legislators, and a handful of Democrats, listened to their constituents and acknowledged that Americans want our borders secured and illegal aliens removed from the United States.

Voters disliked the DREAM Act largely because they were displeased with the path taken by the controversial 1986 amnesty, known as the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). Rather than allowing the United States to “hit the reset button” on immigration, IRCA simply attracted millions of new illegal aliens who figured, if they could just stay in the U.S. long enough, they would benefit from the next amnesty.

And the illegal aliens were right, IRCA was extended several times between 1986 and 2002. Each extension was enacted to allow people who “missed out” to have a “fair chance to apply.” But every incarnation picked up between 500,000 and a million additional applicants – many of whom had no legitimate claim to eligibility.

If the “conservative DREAM Act” is passed, then we’re likely to see history repeat itself. New illegal aliens will flock to our borders, hoping to benefit from the next amnesty. And Congress will kowtow to anti-borders lobby groups who claim the program wasn’t fair to all of the illegals who began their relationship with the United States by ignoring our immigration laws.

There’s a famous pop culture quote, that echoes Santayana’s sage advice: “The very definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again, but expecting different results.” (No one is sure who said it, although it is sometimes erroneously attributed to Albert Einstein.) If the Republican Party continues down the path to a new amnesty, American voters will start wondering if they have truly lost their minds.

Trump will not enforce an end to DACA for 6 months, apparently to give Congress the opportunity to make it legal through legislation. While making it appear that he is yielding to his base and ending DACA, he is in fact saving it. It is sad to see how many naive co-called conservatives believe Trump has been honest with them.

He could have put an end to it immediately, but instead he plays this “it is ok if it is done legally” baloney. No, it’s not OK. They should never have been here in the first place. Now, thanks to Trump, the amnesty crowd will have an opportunity to retroactively make what was illegal, legal. And you know he will sign a bill like that. So Thanks to Trump, Obama may achieve the ultimate goal of his DACA: more amnesty for illegal aliens.

The only option we have now is to hound him to the ends of the earth. We must tell those who should be our allies to stop making excuses for him and stop the self deluding fairy tales about some super secret brilliant strategy. We must unite with one voice and pounce on him without mercy. It is our only chance. If he looks around and sees virtually nobody on our side supports him. If he feels isolated and alone with only his enemies as treacherous “friends,” then perhaps he will conclude that to survive politically, he must faithfully fulfill his promises to us without playing games and fight hard for us without neutralizing “compromises.” We must drag him kicking and screaming all the way to veto a DACA amnesty or any amnesty.

There is no guarantee he'll enforce the law in 6 months. Let's not forget the tweets where he said he'll revisit DACA at the end of that 6 months should congress fail to act.

You're right, Trump is attempting to save the illegals in DACA. Honestly, I don't think he has any intentions on ever enforcing the law against them. Yes, we must rise up and overcome the voice of our opposition if we have any hopes of stopping this illegal immigrant amnesty. Unfortunately, I'm afraid we're at a big disadvantage in this fight. Heck, even many of the FOX channel commentators are praising Trump for working with the Democrats to push a DACA amnesty "the right way." I'm not even going to go into what the other media outlets are saying, except to say they are giving the impression that no one wants "those poor kids" deported and everyone supports setting them on a path to citizenship.

Trump, being easy to influence, has started listening to the amnesty supporters in his administration. His Chief of Staff, John Kelly, who is also an amnesty supporter has isolated Trump from the voices that oppose any and all illegal immigrant amnesty. There was even an article posted on here the other day that said John Kelly wasn't even allowing amnesty opposition news clips to reach Trump's desk. The amnesty crowd has won him over.

Donald Trump campaigned on Jeff Session'a, Bannon's, and Stephen Miller's message because Bannon convinced him it was a winner, but now that he's won, he's allowing the wrong crowd to influence him.
