Here's Senator Chambliss' response to my concerns about La Raza's funding, dated Monday, September 24, 2007
Dear Mr. XXX:
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1999, the "Hope Fund Act of 2007." It is good to hear from you.
H.R. 1999 was introduced on April 23, 2007, and was referred to the House Financial Services Committee. This legislation would give a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant to the National Council of La Raza to provide technical and financial assistance for local non-profit organizations to undertake community development and affordable housing projects. This legislation is designed to fund organizations located in neighborhoods with substantially high populations of Hispanic origin.
There currently is no companion legislation in the Senate. However, should H.R. 1999 come before the full Senate, I will not support it.
I was pleased to vote in support of S. 1789, the Fiscal Year 2008 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which includes $36 billion for HUD, of which over $826 million is for assistance programs for low-income individuals and families of all ethnicities.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
