San Diego teacher forces kids to celebrate Mexican holiday

I heard this on a local radio show, Roger Hedgecock on San Diego's KOGO-AM600 the other day. Some parent wrote an email to Roger saying his kid was told to bring in a picture of a grandparent or relative and some of that person's favorite food. When the parent asked why they needed this, the kid said the teacher had set up an religious altar in the classroom, and told the students to bring in the items to celebrate 'Dia de la Muerte', the Mexican 'Day of the dead' holiday. Can you believe this crap, not only do we have to put up with masses of illegal Mexicans flooding the school system, now U.S. kids are forced to celebrate Mexican religious holidays to boot. You know it's only a matter of time until they start celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence day, if they haven't done it already.

If this keeps up they will have our kids sacrificing goats to be more in touch with the Aztec and Mayan sacrifice rituals eventually.

Mommy, my teacher says I need to take a young goat to school next Monday!

The parents should be sueing the school! This country is not so far gone yet that the parents still don't have a say in what their child is exposed to.

This holliday is comemorated in all South America too, the second of november is a day to honor the dead people, friends and relatives(not the day of the Death).
The first of november is the day of all Saints.
I think this is Catholic, but I don't agree also with this imposition of other cultures here.
If they fight so much for separation of church and state , How come they are going to celebrate a religious holiday in school

This is America and we celebrate American holidays here. For all I know these holiday's could be associated with a cult and my children would not be exposed to them. Where do these teachers get off not even sending a letter home from school, just forcing this on the children without parental consent.

Actually, they sacrificed other humans, and occassionally ate them. Sooo....if the schools really want to get into it, they could just justify it by saying it was being culturally sensitive, or maybe it would be under dietary guidelines!!! OK, so that was a morbid joke!

Really though, do you all see why I do not have my kids in the schools?

Yep. I went in to bring my kids some treats for the Halloween parties on Tuesday. There was a display for the Day of the Dead/sugar skulls and everything. It wasn't the day to say something but we'll see....

ABSOLUTELY OFFENSIVE!!!! That celebration belongs in Mexico, not America.
