LibertyNEWS TV - "The Demonization of the Duck Commander as the Left Tries to Suspend our Liberties"

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." What better way to start today's report than with that familiar and forceful declaration that goes to the heart of the Phil Robertson/A&E/Duck Dynasty controversy?

It was the 18th century French writer and philosopher Voltaire to whom those powerful words are often attributed: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Voltaire was famous for his impassioned advocacy of freedom of religion and freedom of expression - two freedoms essential to our American experience, our traditional way of life.

So, when the A&E television network reacts aggressively to what Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson said when asked in an interview about his religious beliefs - when the cable channel suspends the outspoken Robertson family patriarch from future tapings of the wildly popular program - a phenomenal thing happens: millions of Americans rise up in protest.

People who have never seen the show, people who have never bought a Duck Dynasty product, even people who disagree with what Robertson told the magazine "GQ" about his belief that homosexuality is ungodly and a sin - all sorts of Americans across political and cultural divides rise up to protest what many see as the very public persecution of a devout Christian for expressing his deeply held religious beliefs.

The Phil Robertson saga launched websites and Facebook pages. One Facebook page associated with our family of companies - We Stand with Phil - caught fire, getting more than a million likes in less than 24 hours. Petitions sprang up, supporting the Duck Commander and spanking A&E for acting to silence him, at least on their network. The petition associated with our group of grassroots Americans has already secured well over 300,000 signatures calling for his re-instatement to the show.

Now, at this point in the still spreading firestorm, there's no indication that A&E will relent in its decision to suspend Phil Robertson - a decision made at the urging of LGBT and other advocacy groups. There's also some indication the Robertson clan will not proceed with new Duck Dynasty shows if their patriarch is not part of them.

And certainly A&E, a private enterprise in a free market, can make business decisions as it sees fit, even if they are lousy and seen as offensive.

So, what can we say about all this? What observations can fairly be made? Number one - this is clearly not just a fuss about a reality TV show. It's about the liberties and freedoms that we, as Americans, have long fought for and cherish - freedom of speech, of religion, the freedom to believe what you want and express those beliefs, reasonably, without fear of persecution. It's also about the concern that persecution could become prosecution, should the PC statists move to legally suppress and oppress.

We find it fascinating as well that this episode exposes the fragile foundation upon which the left - the cultural progressives - boldly base their arguments. No matter how loudly the left-leaning media and their allies - the self-appointed police of political correctness - try to insist this massive backlash against A&E is the reaction of the rabid, redneck, right - no matter how hard they push that meme, it fails. It is clear that the outrage over the targeting of Phil Robertson is an expression of far more than right-wingers, far more than just conservatives.

It is the righteous indignation of numerous, diverse American voices, people who get it, people who believe that, ironically, what A&E did in bending and bowing down to the Left promoted the very intolerance they supposedly stand against. They hurt their own cause.

The widespread outrage over the Robertson suspension/firing is epic pushback from average, ordinary, everyday folk - millions upon millions of men and women, old and young, black and white, gay and straight - Americans who sense, rightly, that much more than a hit TV show is at stake here. That no matter what eventually happens with the Robertson family and Duck Dynasty, the American "show" must go on. And a big part of that saga - a major plot line - is this: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

The "Duck Dynasty" star did not say " gay people won't go to heaven." Robertson was talking about several kinds of behaviors that will keep you out of the Heaven, and not just homosexual behavior. Greed, adultery, bestiality, idolatry, and drunkenness were also on his list -- because those are on the Christian Bible's list.

ANY sin will keep you out of Heaven if you have not repented of it and accepted Christ's offer of salvation and forgiveness. Phil did not just single out homosexual behavior, he mentioned adultery as well. Any sex outside of Biblical marriage is sinful. He was just telling the truth!

Duck Dynasty’ debate explodes from TV to dinner tables, water coolers

The most popular reality show in cable television history has sparked a heated national debate, laying bare a national rift over gay rights and free speech and prompting politicians, entertainers and ordinary folks to enter the cultural fray.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, as well as former GOP presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin, have all come to the defense of ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson, whose statements condemning homosexuality angered many and earned him an “indefinite suspension” from the A&E network. With families gathering for the holidays next week, it seems likely ‘Duck Dynasty’ will dominate many dinner table debates.
What won’t be as clear is whether the hit show will go on. A statement from the Robertson family released late Thursday raised doubts about the Louisiana clan’s willingness to continue after comments from patriarch Phil Robertson triggered an uproar.
“We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm,” the Robertson family said in a prepared statement. “We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.”
The family said it has “spent much time in prayer” since learning A&E had suspended Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the Louisiana family, over comments he made about homosexuality.
Robertson sparked a national debate on religion and tolerance in an interview with GQ magazine. The writer asked him what he considered to be sinful behavior.
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” Robertson said.
Then he paraphrased Paul’s letter to the Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
The family defended Robertson’s comments and stressed that they are a “family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word.”
“While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible,” the family said. “Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Phil would never incite or encourage hate.”
The family also criticized A&E for its actions, saying he was placed on hiatus “for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right.”
Robertson’s comments drew immediate condemnation from gay rights groups who pressured the network to take action. On Wednesday, A&E announced Robertson was being removed from the show indefinitely.
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,” the network said in a statement.
“His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
A&E’s decision to pull Robertson from the show drew strong support from the gay and lesbian rights group GLAAD.
“What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike,” said GLAAD rep Wilson Cruz. “By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value.”
Duck Dynasty drew 11.8 million viewers in August for the debut of its fourth season – setting a record for a cable nonfiction series.
Hundreds of thousands of outraged fans responded to the news of Robertson’s suspension by launching boycotts and petitions They accused the network of discriminating against Robertson because of his religious beliefs and violating his First Amendment rights.
“Free speech is an endangered species,” wrote former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on her Facebook page. “Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.”
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal also voiced support for his embattled constituents.
“The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with,” he said. “It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, told Fox News the suspension shows Hollywood wants to avoid reality.
“The reality is that the Robertson family are Bible-believing Christians who don’t cherry pick what the Bible teaches,” he said.
Perkins said the Duck Dynasty patriarch was targeted “simply because he expressed his religious beliefs but there is a clear double standard that is being applied.”
“It is time for all Americans to take a stand against the cultural elites who want to destroy the livelihood of people and remove God and His truth from every aspect of public life,” he said.
The Liberty Institute, a legal firm specializing in religious liberty cases, condemned A&E’s actions and urged them to reconsider.
“In the spirit of American tolerance of religious diversity, A&E should reinstate Mr. Robertson and apologize for its religious bigotry,” the statement read.

Piers Morgan Thinks Gay Is A “Race,” Calls Duck Dynasty Phil Robertson Star A “Racist Bigot”

In the left wing media's effort to promote their agenda, instead of focusing on what people actually say and getting to the heart of the matter, some pundits make more of an ass of themselves than they already are. Insert lefty British media darling Piers Morgan and his obsession with racism.
Apparently Mr Morgan doesn't know the difference between a race and a lifestyle as is evident in a Tweet he put out today commenting on Duck Dynasty start Phil Robertson's comments about homosexuals and his subsequent firing from the wildly popular A&E show.
Morgan said in his Tweet, "Calm down everyone, I'm merely exercising my 1st Amendment freedom of speech rights to say Phil Robertson is a racist bigot."
    See Morgan's Tweet below:

Gay Group Calls For Re-Education of Phil Robertson

Suspension of Duck Dynasty star over comments not enough

For the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), suspending Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty over his comments regarding homosexuality isn’t enough – now they are calling for Robertson to be re-educated.

    Image: Phil Robertson (YouTube).

GLAAD was instrumental in forcing A&E’s hand in the decision to discriminate against Robertson for expressing his First Amendment right. GLAAD met with A&E representatives on Wednesday morning urging them to take action against Robertson and by the evening the Duck Dynasty star had been suspended.
While admitting that they have received an unprecedented backlash over their role in Robertson being suspended, GLADD are by no means finished. They are now calling for Robertson to be re-educated on gay issues by making him meet with homosexual families in some kind of bizarre Alcoholics Anonymous-style treatment.
“We believe the next step is to use this as an opportunity for Phil to sit down with gay families in Louisiana and learn about their lives and the values they share,” GLAAD’s vice president of communications Rich Ferraro told The Wrap.
It’s not enough for Robertson to be suspended for daring to criticize homosexuality, gay activists want him to recant in order to send a message that having a view that differs from the PC doctrine will result in re-education.
The group is also targeting companies who use Robertson as a spokesman, intimidating them into severing ties with the Duck Dynasty star.
Whether you agree or disagree with Phil Robertson’s comments is irrelevant. If we are to accept, as leftists are arguing, that controversial comments should not be allowed in the public domain, then the Bible and the Qur’an should be removed from tens of millions of churches worldwide since they both condemn homosexuality.
Openly gay feminist Camille Paglia nailed it when she stated, “In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as well as they have the right to support homosexuality — as I one hundred percent do. If people are basing their views against gays on the Bible, again they have a right of religious freedom there.”
A&E had a right to suspend Robertson because they are a private company and can operate as they like in a free market. However, imagine the backlash that would have ensued if a major corporation had suspended a television personality over pro-gay comments. It’s not going to happen because political correctness only protects the free speech rights of certain groups of people while discriminating against others.
The First Amendment guarantees the right to free speech for all. In a truly free society, controversial opinions should be freely exchanged and debated, even if they cause offense, without the threat of reprisals.
