Belize to host CARICOM-Central America summit
Published on Friday, May 4, 2007 Email To Friend Print Version

BELMOPAN, Belize: Prime ministers of the Caribbean Community and presidents of Central America will converge in Belize to attend a summit meeting of Heads of State and Government of CARICOM and SICA scheduled for May 12, 2007.

The summit is one of a number of meetings being hosted by Belize as part of the country’s fulfillment of its commitments as Presidency Pro-Tempore of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Among the items on the agenda are issues related to climate change, energy policies and natural disaster mitigation. The summit will be preceded by a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of SICA followed by a meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of CARICOM.

Also in May 2007, Belize assumed the Chairmanship of the CARICOM Council on Foreign & Community Relations (COFCOR), a council consisting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CARICOM.

The main objective of Belize’s presidency is to link Central America and the Caribbean Community. It is expected that these meetings will further strengthen the relations between the two regions.
