    Ex-Mexico Prez: Racists Stop Immigration

NEW YORK (AP) - Former Mexican President Vicente Fox said Monday that the United States is letting racism dictate its policies, especially when it comes to immigration.
"The xenophobics, the racists, those who feel they are a superior race ... they are deciding the future of this nation," he said, without naming names, in an interview with The Associated Press.

In his first interview to promote his new book, "Revolution of Hope," Fox applauded President Bush's desire to pass an immigration accord that would allow more Mexicans to work legally in the U.S.

But he criticized Bush for failing to pass the promised reform.

"There was always a reason for why it couldn't be done. 'It is not possible because of the elections.' He couldn't touch the topic because this election is very important, or because security was more important," Fox said.

"So, when are they going to finally address it? It needs to be resolved."

Fox said he hopes his new book, written in English, helps Americans understand the Mexican point of view on immigration.

"To be so repressive isn't democractic or free ... to be putting up fences, chasing Mexicans, that isn't right," Fox said. "The U.S. needs better answers than repression, weapons and violence."

Fox also talked about his sometimes rocky relationship with Bush, a man he calls a "windshield cowboy" in his book.

Both men had worked together as governors of influential agricultural states in Mexico and the U.S. They began their presidential terms in office nearly eight years ago with close relations, and Bush even made a visit to Fox's central Mexican ranch his first foreign trip as president in early 2001.

But they split ways on Iraq, after Fox refused to back the impending war.

"There are important differences between myself and President Bush, including the case of Iraq and other topics where we think and act differently," Fox said.

Fox also denied media and opposition allegations of illicit wealth that have arisen in Mexico, after a celebrity magazine published photos of his newly renovated ranch. He said the accusations were made "without any evidence."

"It's just yellow journalism," he said.

We already know what the "mexican point of view" on immigration is, and we're tired of it.
They don't respect our laws and think it's okay to break our laws going under the guise of "I'm trying to support my family."

I can't believe the arrogance of this jerk!

Like this clown should lecture us on anything. If given the chance, every single person in Mexico would move to the U.S. to avoid the corruption, violence, poverty and oppression that is their national policy. As far as this idiot decrying weapons and violence here, the last time I checked it was Mexico and not America that is run by murderous drug cartels, who own every politician and murder every person who dares speak out against the corruption. It is Mexico that was recently named the second most dangerous place on Earth to live, next to Iraq, where kidnapping and murder are a daily occurence. It is Mexico where women and young girls are openly raped and even kidnapped for sex, with absolutely no effort by the government to stop it. Some legislators in their own govenment have even been quoted calling it 'romantic' for a man to kidnap and rape a 12 year old girl, as long as the man intends to marry the girl someday.

Sytemic corruption, rape, murder, kidnapping, drug cartels, politicians, soldiers and the police bought and owned by criminal thugs, who do their bidding killing, robbing and shaking down their population, and Fox dares reprimand us for simply wanting keep this way of life from infecting our country to the point of extinction? BTW, how do you say 'chutzpah' in Spanish?

The sentiments and quote attributed to Vicente Fox in the first paragraph -- the quote where he doesn't name names -- would most appropriately apply to Mexican politicians and Mexican nationals living in the United States in varying degrees of illegality. The xenophobia is reflective of their fear that a foreign nation (even if it is the one that they are living in) might actually exert its sovereignty so that its destiny is determined by the people of that country rather than the people of a neighboring (failed?) country. The racism (or nationalism might be a better word in this case) is much more prevalent and obvious in the group represented and defended by Fox. It's not U.S. citizens of any persuasion flying U.S. flags in Mexico or demanding rights and special accommodations in Mexico for their specific group. At any rate, on any sort of moral yardstick measurement the defender almost always has the better moral position than the aggressor; but, somehow Vicente and others are allowed to switch that around to make the defenders look like the aggressors and the aggressors to look like the defenders. I think we are more likely fools than racists.

Last time I checked, it was MEXICAN police and federales robbing, murdering, raping, assaulting, and imprisoning illegal Central Americans entering Mexico!!!

Fix your own house Fox, before you give any hypocritical lectures. Fixing your own damn house would solve A LOT of problems for both of us. Americans are not going to listen to your invader rhetoric.
Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.
