“Faith” Leaders Rally Against North Carolina Requiring Law Enforcement To Work With NICE

Why does it seem that so many “faith” leaders seem to take the view of lawlessness and Leftism?Faith leaders gather in Raleigh in opposition of immigration bill aimed at state agenciesAll 153 does is require key state law enforcement agencies, the State Highway Patrol, Department of Public Safety, Department of Adult Correction, and State Bureau of Investigation, to enter into formal 287(g) agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That’s it in terms of cooperation. They aren’t being tasked with going out and rounding up illegals, but, simply informing NICE when they catch one for something else, and holding them.
Clergy and faith leaders gathered Saturday at Halifax Mall in downtown Raleigh for a prayer vigil for law enforcement and immigrant communities affected by a new law aimed at cracking down on undocumented immigrants in North Carolina.
With voices lifted and heads bowed, the event was a show of support from faith leaders for those affected by Senate Bill 153, a law that requires state agencies, including the State Highway Patrol, to cooperate with ICE.
“This is not what state troopers signed up for,” Rev. Joel Simpson from United Methodist Church of Taylorsville said. “It makes their responsibility even greater while pulling them away from good and important work they’re already doing across our state.”
The bill became law in June when Republican House lawmakers voted to override Gov. Josh Stein’s veto.
It also bans NC governments, all the way down to localities, as well as the UNC school system, from acting as sanctuary jurisdictions. Finally, it bans illegal aliens from receiving state benefits, including Medicaid, housing assistance, child care subsidies, and more.Becky Showalter, who held a sign amongst the crowd, said she worries about the tough decisions officers may be forced to make and what it could mean for immigrants.Well, they can always leave the US and go elsewhere if the illegals are concerned
“When immigrant populations are not going to go to law enforcement now to report crimes because they’re afraid that they’re going to be taken away, we’re all less safe for that,” Showalter said.
