It happens all of the time here in SoCal. Next to me is an abandon dairy barn. Some illegals moved into the feed barn and by-passed the meter.
Even thought it was by-passed the meter still recorded the usage at the main plant. The reason they spotted this is because the account was closed and had been for 20 years.------------------------

THE POWER /LIGHT COMPANIES CANNOT BE LETTING THIS HAPPEN
Has anyone ever seen the shanty houses on the mountains in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
ALL THOSE HOUSES, 1 million people , don't pay the power/light company.
It started with some houses like hear and now is like a whole city.
The other consumers PAY for them to have power/light.
Within some more time we are going to start paying light/power to them too because the big companies won't be losing money.
Someone HAS TO PAY

As long as someone pays the electric company doesn't care. They don't completely by pass the meter like the people who were growing marijuana in houses. What these poeple do most often is simply hookup their electricity to a neigbors house. If the neighbor notices high bills and calls the electric company complaining that they aren't using any more electricity than they have in the past, the electric company comes out and checks it out. That is when they get caught. Another way many get caught is when there is an electrical fire in their house. By passing the meter causes a lot of fires that is the reason why many pot growing houses get discovered.
