Three Hearings

1.Broward Legislative Delegation - January 7, 2011. A previous FLIMEN alert was sent to subscribers in Broward County. FLIMEN VP Caulkett will present the case for E-Verify. Details follow.


2.Representative Snyder's Immigration Hearing - January 7, 2011. A previous FLIMEN alert was sent to subscribers in counties adjacent to Palm City. FLIMEN Legislative Director Jack Oliver will present the case for E-Verify. Arrive early. Details follow.

This promises to be a hot hearing with lots of pro-enforcement and anti-enforcement factions in attendance:


3.Florida Senate Judiciary Committee Immigration Hearing - January 10, 2011. This will be the first of three planned hearings to be held in Tallahassee. The first hearing will be only governmental agency testimony. FLIMEN will provide a link to streaming video soon if available. FLIMEN is expected to testify at the second hearing scheduled for January 24, 2011. Those near Tallahasee should consider attending.

MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 2011 ANNOUNCEMENT

Senator Flores will lead a meeting from 3:00—6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011, in the Toni Jennings Committee Room, 110 Senate Office Building to hear presentations from invited speakers on immigration. All interested Senators and Representatives are invited to participate.

The list of invited speakers is as follows:


1. A representative from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

2. A representative from the Pew Hispanic Center

3. Various representatives from the state Department of Education-Deputy Commissioner Linda Champion, General Counsel Miki Presley, Deputy Chancellor for Curriculum Instruction and Student Services Mary Jane Tappen

4. A representative from the Florida Hospital Association

5. Representative from the state Department of Corrections

6. Representative from the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
