Former Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo on Wednesday said Donald Trump was right in terminating DACA, and Congress might unify and pass a bill to provide the "Dreamers" amnesty because of how much hatred they have for the president.

"It is not President Trump's fault; it is absolutely what he should have done," Tancredo told hosts Bill Tucker and Carl Roth on NewsmaxTV's "Newsmax Now."

". . . A lot of people think it's actually a law somehow, and Trump is repealing it somehow by executive order. No, not the way it happened at all, of course. Here are the exact words Barack Obama in the Rose Garden when he announced this executive action: 'Let's be clear, this is not amnesty, this is not immunity, this is not a path to citizenship, it is not a permanent fix, it is a temporary stopgap measure that lets us focus our resources,' and it is of course completely unconstitutional – oh no wait, that's not right."

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program started in 2012 under Obama via an executive order. Trump during the campaign spoke many times about his desire to end the program, which grants amnesty to undocumented immigrants who entered the United States as children.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday announced Trump's decision to end DACA with a six-month delay, giving Congress a window to act.

Tancredo said he thinks it is "very possible" Congress will come together.

"All of the same division in Congress that has stopped it from doing anything all these years are still there, but the only difference is Donald Trump, and they hate him more than anything else," he said.
