Gallup: Obama Approval Falls to 41%

by Mike Flynn 5 Oct 2013, 7:41 AM PDT 286 post a comment

The latest Gallup tracking poll finds that just 41% of Americans approve of President Obama's job performance. A solid majority, 52%, disapprove of Obama. This latest Gallup poll is the first in which all the interviews were conducted after the government shutdown and ObamaCare came into effect. It is a clear sign that Obama and the Democrats are bearing some blame for the current funding impasse.

Obama's falling approval rating is a dramatic drop from the beginning of the year. At the end of 2012, on the heels of his reelection, 56% of Americans approved of Obama and only 39% disapproved. The current fall-off in support represents a 28-point swing against Obama.
Interestingly, Obama's weak approval numbers also match his previous low-point in the Gallup poll. That occurred in August 2011, after the last fight over the debt ceiling. In the aftermath of that "deal", Obama's approval dropped to 39% against 54% who disapproved.
These numbers suggest the conventional wisdom that Obama has a political edge in fights over spending and federal debt are wrong. It is only when those issues are out of the headlines that Obama's approval numbers inch back up.
This provides an interesting back-drop for the current debt debate, which is set to be larger and louder than the debate two years ago.

Obama: I'd 'Think About Changing' Nickname if I Owned Redskins

by Breitbart Sports 5 Oct 2013, 8:22 AM PDT 260 post a comment

President Barack Obama indicated that he may support efforts to get the Washington Redskins to change their nickname, saying that if he owned the Redskins he would "think about changing" the team name.

"I don't know whether our attachment to a particular name should override the real legitimate concerns that people have about these things," Obama told The Associated Press on Friday.

Obama said the Redskins name--and others like it--offend "a sizable group of people" and noted that Native Americans "feel pretty strongly" about such mascots.

According to The Associated Press, "opponents of the Redskins nickname also plan to hold a protest Monday outside the NFL's fall meeting in Washington" and lawmakers have written to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and introduced legislation seeking a name change even though nearly 80% of Americans, in a national AP-Gfk poll conducted in April, support the name.

As Breitbart News reported, though Redskins owner Dan Snyder said he would "NEVER" change the team's name, Goodell recently indicated that the NFL had to listen to concerns about the name even if just "one person is offended."

During Government shutdown, Obama Encourages Redskins to change their team name

Posted on 5 October, 2013 by Amy

Lack of leadership and negotiation in Washington DC has caused a government shutdown and 800,000 people go without pay. During the shutdown, President Obama has advised the Redskins Football Organization to change their team name. Despite the president’s lack of business experience, he believes it would be a sound decision to change the team name. The Redskins, he says, offend “a sizable group of people.” He said that fans get attached to the nicknames, but nostalgia is not a good enough reason to keep the name.
