Going on the offense - Introducing new legislation

I know that there is a thread already about going on the offense so sorry if this is too much of a duplication. I wanted to start a new thread about the possibility of getting someone in the House early next year introduce legislation which would levy heavy penalties on those that hire illegals and mandating the use of e-verify.

Someone like Michele Bachmann or Darrell Issa. The new House would likely pass such legislation and it might also pass the Senate with enough push. Although Obama would likely veto it, it would be a major stain on him for 2012.

I am a newbie here and I don't know much about Congress other than the basics. However, I am fired up by the Dream Act nearly passing. My House rep is a good one and is a Republican. I might check into seeing if I can get a meeting or at least visit their office.

We need to identify someone in the House who would champion such a thing. I am new. Any ideas?

Welcome to ALIPAC commonsense2010. There are going to be a lot of new representatives, many were endorsed by ALIPAC. I am still on guard until the new Congress is seated.

Don't forget all the people in Nevada that tried to vote only to find that Reid was PRE selected by the voting machines.

I don't think any union that contributes to a candidate should be in charge of the voting machines but it happened.

Probably what would happen is that the liberal Democratic Senators would filibuster it or it would die in Senate Committee. I'm no political expert but if we can do it to progressive initiatives, they can do it to us. Until there is a significant conservative majority in both chambers. Then you would have to get it past a pres. veto.

The tail that's wagging the dog is the labor unions. They have become kingmakers, at least by being huge contributors to the campaign funds. (That is, in addition to George Soros and the Media moguls) They used to be anti-immigrant, but now they are under the spell of the "international justice" ideologues. I saw the WTO protests in 1999 in Seattle----which really was orchestrated by the AFL-CIO and even back then they were championing the so-called immigrant victims of NAFTA. The breakdown in logic with that was that these "victims" were pretty much itinerant Mexican laborers who were displaced by a whole host of factors---not just NAFTA. Of course, you could never prove it to the labor movement. They believe what they want to believe.

So as long as the labor leaders are in bed with the Democratic party's progressive wing, it's going to be really tough to get change. Maybe in 2012 a Republican will get the presidency. That is, if they can get over their silly infighting over religious beliefs and just stick to political governance.

According to Ben, a staffer in 2007 for Diane Feinstein, you do not need to be a citizen to vote, only registered

We do need an offense and we need that 2007 bill to go forward. We need to have the border locked down and if to do it right takes the militarydoing it so be it. The military is there to protect the interests of the American People, its well within their job scope.

Far as Obama veto'ing unless there was a clause about no potential dream act at all ever in it I don't think he could afford to veto it. Any veto would be a career destroyer from a major bill that past both senate and the house. He couldn't even be voted in as a city mayor.

I'm sure many are like myself tired of being called dirty names for not supporting this ridiulous dream act. We are treated like the devil incarnate matter what our beliefs or political stance. However its not that we don't care about these potentials, its not that we are heartless or racist. I believe the majority of us simply want the border closed off first with fixing the cause of the problem first. After that I personally would gladly support a limited scope dream act that is set up properly and not just a trash hidden mass amnesty act.

    Welcome "Common Sense 2010"

IMO, the U.S. Congress will be gridlocked for the nxt two years. We should all ask our federal reps to co-sponsor E-Verify, but I believe the best of our work will be at the state level.

Pass new laws at the state level.

Make it CRYSTAL CLEAR to every U.S Senator and Congressman that immigration enforcement must be advanced. To oppose it, is to lose your job. Many of them need an "attitude" adjustment between now and 2012.

I'm not so sure we'll be gridlocked that bad. We could still probably pass some smaller vital bills such as proper voter ID and citizenship verifcation. Also soon as Arizona's law passes the supreme court I'm betting a similiar of same bill sweeps least 20 states into state law.
