GOP House Leader Wants to Revive TPP: ‘Don’t Withdraw, Renegotiate’

GOP House Leader Wants to Revive TPP: ‘Don’t Withdraw, Renegotiate’

    15 Nov 2016

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) may not be dead after all: House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady wants to “re-negotiate” Obamatrade during President-Elect Donald Trump’s first term.

Brady said the GOP-controlled Congress should defend TPP, called by some the “nascent European Union,” which the outgoing Obama administration reportedly abandoned after Trump’s election. Reuters reports:

“Republicans are going to continue to support the freedom to trade,” the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee said.

When it comes to the controversial TPP, which president-elect Donald Trump has opposed, Brady said the plan was defensible.

“Don’t withdraw, renegotiate,” he told a panel of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. “There is plenty that levels the playing field. Renegotiate. Fix the problems that exist today. Let’s find a way to move forward.”

TPP, which is not simply a “trade deal” but the creation of a new global governing structure, of weighs in at 5,554 pages and can only be reviewed in a secret, secured room in Washington, D.C. by congressmen and aides with certain security clearances. Under current fast-track rules, it cannot by amended or filibustered by Congress.

Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions, who backed Trump in the GOP primaries, has criticized TPP in the strongest of terms:

This is, by definition, anti-democratic. No individual American has the resources to ensure his or her economic and political interests are safeguarded within this vast global regulatory structure. The predictable and surely desired result of the TPP is to put greater distance between the governed and those who govern. It puts those who make the rules out of reach of those who live under them, empowering unelected regulators who cannot be recalled or voted out of office. In turn, it diminishes the power of the people’s bulwark: their constitutionally-formed Congress…

Among the TPP’s endless pages are rules for labor, environment, immigration and every aspect of global commerce – and a new international regulatory structure to promulgate, implement, and enforce these rules,” Sessions said. “This new structure is known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission – a Pacific Union – which meets, appoints unelected bureaucrats, adopts rules, and changes the agreement after adoption…

These 5,554 pages are like the Lilliputians binding down Gulliver. They will enmesh our great country, and economy, in a global commission where bureaucrats from Brunei have the same vote as the United States. Clearly, powerful forces will have their voices heard and find ways to profit immensely from this conglomeration. But what of everyday wage-earning Americans? By nearly a 5:1 margin, they believe such deals reduce wages – not increase them. Because this deal lacks currency protections, it will further the bleeding of U.S. manufacturing jobs overseas, allowing our mercantilist trading partners to take advantage of our continued refusal to protect our own workers.

Trump also slammed TPP repeatedly on the campaign trail.

“If [Hillary Clinton] is elected President she will adopt the Trans-Pacific Partnership and we will lose millions of jobs and our economic independence for good,” Trump said in late June. “Just as she has betrayed the American worker and trade at every single stage of her career and it will be even worse than the Clinton’s NAFTA deal. And I never thought it could get worse than that. We will lose jobs. We will lose employment. We will lose taxes. We will lose everything. We will lose our country.”

There is “no way forward” for the 12-nation agreement now, Obama administration officials told reporters after Nov. 8. If Republicans in Congress resurrect the multi-nation agreement, it’s likely to be vetoed by President Trump.

NO!!! Now sit down, shut up and pass the FairTax out of your committee, Kevin. Do something that helps our economy, our workers, our investors, our employers. TPP is dead. So just dig in and give Singapore their donations back, Kevin, it's OVER.

PS: Kevin Brady, you have the chance, to do something that no one has been able to do since 1999 when the FairTax legislation was first introduced into the US Congress. You have the chance, the unique opportunity, to pass this legislation, give Americans their privacy and freedom back, to use our tax code not to enrich illegal aliens through tax credit welfare, but penalize them while they are in the country illegally. You have the chance to balance our trade deficits without trade wars or confrontation. You have the chance to bring all of our offshore money and jobs back to the United States. You have the chance to level the playing field for our American businesses and manufacturers to protect our workers, wages and benefits. The FairTax does all of this with one simple easy to read and understand piece of legislation, HR 25 in the US House of Representatives and S 155 in the US Senate.

Forget about the TPP. Focus your attention on passing the FairTax and Make America Free and Great Again. You have a Republican House that supports the FairTax, you have a Republican Senate that I believe will support the FairTax, and you have a Republican President who will sign that legislation into law faster than I can say House Bill HR 25.

Make that your focus. Hone in. Trump was elected to end this free trade treason nonsense. TPP is dead and all the others are going to be renegotiated or we'll withdraw from them. Donald Trump has wanted to end this free trade debacle for 36 years, so that gig is up, it's over. Focus on the FairTax and you will be forever remembered as the MAN WHO SAVED AMERICANS FROM THEIR OWN INCOME TAX OPPRESSION and changed the course of our country for the better, forever.

Good Luck and God Bless You for Supporting the FairTax.

You don't think the FairTax is on the "radar"??

Kevin Brady is Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee that reviews the FairTax.

Kevin Brady is one of 75 House of Representative Co-Sponsors of the FairTax legislation, HR 25.

Our new President Trump likes the FairTax, he just thought tax cuts would be faster or it would have been his tax plan.

Ted Cruz, you big buddy, is one of the Co-Sponsors of the FairTax legislation in the US Senate, our North Carolina US Senator, Richard Burr, is a Co-Sponsor of the FairTax legislation in the US Senate.

The FairTax organization is gearing up already now that we have control of both chambers of the Congress and the White House. Already getting their "ALERTS" and FairTax Friday news.

The FairTax will become law during the first term of the Trump Presidency.

    That's my wager.

I really hate to see you get disappointed again, but it is what it is. There are lots of reason the so-called fair tax plan will never pass, but of course we've already been over that 100 times on here.

Oh yes, the FairTax will pass because it's the best federal tax proposal that's ever been presented to the American People. The income tax is Democrat Evil, that's cost US jobs, wealth, income, prosperity, fairness, efficiency, equality, trade protection, border security, solvency and fiscal responsibility. The FairTax solves all those problems in one simple bill with 2 15 minute roll call votes, 1 in each house, and a President with the brains to sign it into law.

It's really bizarre to me that you would support such Democrat Evil and oppose the FairTax.

OH HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!

Judy's Five Steps to Fix the US Economy: (some will remember this)

    1. Stop illegal immigration and reduce legal immigration
    2. Pass the FairTax
    3. Protect our Trade
    4. End the War on Drugs
    5. Drill Baby Drill, but do it right

We're on our way to doing all these corrections in rapid order.

Actually I haven't said what I do and don't support. However, after thoroughly researching the so-called fair-tax plan, I certainly don't support it! Like I said earlier, we've discussed this at great length and I have explained numerous times why I don't support the plan.

No, actually you've never said why you don't support the plan. What you do is google and post a bunch of nonsense from the internet posted by the Anti-FairTax Lobby, that's backed by Tax Accountants, Lawyers and the Tax Return Preparation Industry who have earned billions and billions of dollars in fees off the misery of US taxpayers. So, I can only assume ......

Before calling me a liar, perhaps you should research my comments over the last several years on the subject.
