GOP House Leaders Move Budget Resolution Forward- Calling Obamacare a “train wreck,”

GOP House Leaders Move Budget Resolution Forward

by Conservative Action Alerts on September 18, 2013

UPDATE: Calling Obamacare a “train wreck,” House Speaker John Boehner said today that he and the leadership have decided to align with conservatives and withhold all funds for Obama’s healthcare law in the Continuing Resolution.

“We’re going to continue to do everything we can to repeal the president’s failed health care law,” the Speaker this morning. “This week, the House will pass a CR that locks the sequester savings in, and defunds ObamaCare. The president has signed seven bills over the last two and a half years to make changes to ObamaCare, and I sincerely hope our friends in the Senate have plans to make this an eighth time… it’s time to protect American families from this unworkable law.”

ALERT: GOP Leadership begin to move Obamacare Defund bill forward today! Blast Faxes! Tell Congress to NOT FUND Obamacare!

    American Conservative,
Today, House Republican Leadership starts the process of moving the Continuing Resolution forward, deciding what the government funding bill will look like in order to bring it to vote no later than Friday.

This said, we need to confront GOP House leaders immediately and demand that they adopt a Continuing Resolution that fully defunds Obamacare and force the Senate to vote on it:

Speaker Boehner cancelled last week’s vote after House conservatives made a strong stand against the plan after finding it would’ve allowed the Senate to fund Obama’s healthcare law. We need to keep this pressure up!

If we want to be rid of Obamacare, as Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) says, this is our “last best chance.”

In these final hours, we are urging all of our grassroots activists to contact lawmakers and make a strong push against funding Obamacare in the spending bill this week!

Republican House members have the numbers to stop Obamacare before more of the law kicks-in on the first of October and they have no excuses not to: beingpatently unconstitutional, the largest “tax” in American history, and the number-one job killer in America, Obama’s Big Government Healthcare Law is beyond defense!

Blast Faxes and tell Congress NOT TO FUND Obamacare in the next government spending bill! Short of full repeal, this is the best solution to STOP Obamacare at the federal level.

** Add your name to our “Don’t Fund It” petition and send a no-cost message to your Representative and Senators - select here.

** Call House offices and demand that they “fund the government, not Obamacare” in the Continuing Resolution - select here.

The People elected a Republican Majority in Congress, and the Republican Majority must lead by passing a Continuing Resolution that does not fund Obama’s healthcare law.

Rep. Steve Stockman’s H.Res.333 and Rep. Tom Graves’ H.J.Res.62 would both accomplish this – the Graves Plan already having dozens of co-sponsors.

However, while there is a clear will in Congress to defund Obamacare this week, some GOP members are starting to say that we should defund the law after it kicks in next month via the debt ceiling talks.
We disagree; the time to defund the Healthcare Law is now! Waiting is not an option – the American People have already waited three years!
We need to mobilize now and burn up the capitol switchboard on this — call House offices and demand that they “fund the government, not Obamacare” in theContinuing Resolution this week - see our Congressional Directory here.

And be sure to add your name to our “Don’t Fund It” petition and send a no-cost message to your Representative and Senators telling them to defund Obamacare, here.

For the biggest impact, blast faxes to the entire House or the House Republican Caucus!

Blast Faxes to Congress and tell them NOT to fund Obamacare in the next the next government spending bill! Short of full repeal, this is the best solution to STOP Obamacare at the federal level.

P.S. We have less than two weeks to get lawmakers behind defunding Obamacare. Tell your U.S. Representative and Senators to vote against funding Obama’s Healthcare Law in the next spending bill! Send your messages to U.S. lawmakers here and sign the petition.

Blast Faxes to Congress and tell them NOT to fund Obamacare in the next the next government spending bill! Short of full repeal, this is the best solution to STOP Obamacare at the federal level.

Boehner could see the handwriting on the wall when deciding to switch positions on not funding obamacare. I don't think he does anything on principle, he has to be brow beaten into it.

The RSC's Bill to replace ObamaCare: The American Health Care Reform Act.

Posted by Darla Dawald, National Director on September 18, 2013 at 10:49pm in Patriot Action Alerts

The Republican Study Committee members have been very busy developing an alternative to ObamaCare. The RSC released their plans today.

The centuries-old oath taken by health care professionals reads, “Do no harm.” It is time for Washington lawmakers to take a similar approach when working to fix the problems that exist in our broken health care system. Simply repealing the President's health care law is not enough—it must be replaced.

Conservatives recognize that patient-centered reforms rooted in free markets are the best way to lower costs and solve problems in our health care system. That is why the Republican Study Committee (RSC) is proud to bring forward a pragmatic, practical, and portable free-market alternative to the current health care system. Simply put, our bill is a better way forward. Specifically, the RSC's American Health Care Reform Act:

Fully repeals President Obama's health care law, eliminating billions in taxes and thousands of pages of unworkable regulations and mandates that are driving up health care costs.

Spurs competition to lower health care costs by allowing Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines and enabling small businesses to pool together and get the same buying power as large corporations.

Reforms medical malpractice laws in a commonsense way that limits trial lawyer fees and non-economic damages while maintaining strong protections for patients.

Provides tax reform that allows families and individuals to deduct health care costs, just like companies, leveling the playing field and providing all Americans with a standard deduction for health insurance.

Expands access to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), increasing the amount of pre-tax dollars individuals can deposit into portable savings accounts to be used for health care expenses.

Safeguards individuals with pre-existing conditions from being discriminated against purchasing health insurance by bolstering state-based high risk pools and extending HIPAA guaranteed availability protections.

Protects the unborn by ensuring no federal funding of abortions.

Repeal and Replace Obamacare: It's Time for Reform

Obamacare is a train-wreck full of broken promises that is increasing health care costs and interfering with the doctor patient relationship. Obamacare must be stopped. We recently sat down with Americans from across the country to ask their opinions of Obamacare and how it is affecting them in the workplace.

There is a better way to the one-size-fits-all approach of Obamacare. That is why the Republican Study Committee (RSC) is proud to bring forward a pragmatic, practical, and portable free-market alternative to the current health care system without the unworkable taxes and mandates forced on American families through the President’s health care law.

What They Are Saying About the American Health Care Reform Act

“I would urge all Congressmen to co-sponsor and vote for this pro-taxpayer bill. This legislation is perfectly consistent with The Taxpayer Protection Pledge, and is a quantum leap forward for both health and tax policy.”

Grover Norquist, President, Americans for Tax Reform
“Such a shift toward portability in coverage would better align tax policy with today’s dynamic workforce and help to expand insurance options by providing financial flexibility directly to individuals and families...I hope the tax and fiscal provisions of the American Health Care Reform Act are quickly adopted into law. NTU applauds you for your dedication to repealing Obamacare and implementing those important reforms.”

    – Brandon Arnold, Vice President of Government Affairs, National Taxpayers Union
“On behalf of Americans for Prosperity’s two million activists across this country, I applaud you for introducing the American Health Care Reform Act…Americans for Prosperity is encouraged by efforts to repeal ObamaCare and finally move towards a free-market health care system.”

Christine Hanson, Federal Affairs Manager, Americans for Prosperity
"With Obamacare failing on virtually all fronts this is a truly well thought out legislative solution in an effort to fix what's broke, preserve what's right and enhance quality, access and affordability for millions of Americans, particularly the elderly. 60 Plus enthusiastically endorses your proposals."

    - Jim Martin, Chairman, 60 Plus Association
"A constant trope of the left, repeated yet again by President Obama, is that the right doesn't have alternatives to Obamacare -- that they just care about cost, that they want to take healthcare away, that they don't care about helping people or providing real solutions to the problems that beset out health care system even before the Affordable Care Act passed. And if you ask if people who don't yet support repealing the ACA why not, even if they don't like it, it is because they see no other options. It is critical that opponents of this law -- which will do so much to harm medical care and the choices and innovation we used to take for granted -- put forth a range of reform bills that expand choice and personal control, reduce costs, ensure access, and maintain and enhance the quality of medical care in this country."

    - Heather Higgins, President and CEO, Independent Women's Voice
“Chairman Scalise and Dr. Roe have developed, with their RSC colleagues, a package of key health reform initiatives that move us toward a system that would put doctors and patients, not remote bureaucracies, in charge of medical decisions. Giving people more choices of portable health coverage would stimulate innovation in both insurance and medical care. This competition would drive down costs and make coverage accessible to millions more Americans. This is the right vision for health reform”

House to Vote on Temporary Budget that Defunds Obamacare – But Look What’s Going on Behind the Scenes

Posted on 19 September, 2013 by clyde

    via freedomoutpost

The House of Representatives is gearing up for a vote on a continuing resolution (CR) that will defund Obamacare. The question is, are the Republicans’ heart in it?

National Review reports: Speaker John Boehner huddled with House Republicans this morning at the Capitol. According to several sources in the closed-door meeting, the speaker confirmed his plan to bring a continuing resolution to the floor that funds the government and defunds Obamacare. “On the CR, we know what the position of this conference is,” Boehner said, speaking before his colleagues. “Every member in this room is for defunding Obamacare while letting the rest of the government continue to operate. We’re going to put Obamacare defunding directly into the CR. And then we’re going to send it over to the Senate, so our conservative allies over there can continue the fight.

That’s where the fight is.” “On every major issue we’ve faced for the past two and a half years, the math has been the same: House Republicans either find a way together to get to 218, or the Democrats who run the rest of Washington essentially get everything they want,” he added, pressing for House GOP unity. An earlier idea of using a procedural trick by House Republican leadership in order to fund Obamacare and keep the government from shutting down was floated. We had RINO Eric Cantor to thank for that, and fortunately that idea has been shelved.

    So what’s going on now?

It appears that instead of two parts to the CR, one that funds the government and one that defunds Obamacare, the CR will contain both. It will be sent to the Senate where men with some cajones will actually take a stand in favor of defunding Obamacare; men like Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rand Paul (R-KY). However, the chances of the Senate allowing such a measure are pretty much zero. Sure, the House gets to say, once again, they made a “symbolic” stand against Obamacare as they have 40 other times. However, in the end, it becomes meaningless if they don’t stand their ground completely, even if it means a government shutdown. However, Representative Paul Ryan (R- WI) demonstrates he is more concerned with maintaining his power than he is defunding Obamacare and maintaining principle. National Review adds:

During this morning’s GOP conference meeting, Ryan made his position clear, according to a source in the room. “We have to stay on the right side of public opinion,” he told his colleagues. “Shutting down the government puts us on the wrong side. The fight is on the debt limit.”

Ryan’s allies tell me they expect him to support Boehner’s plan, but he’s also going to work behind the scenes, as an unofficial ambassador for the leadership, to convince House Republicans to move away from a CR fight, should the Senate, as expected, kill the House’s stopgap bill that defunds Obamacare. Ryan reportedly believes the House Republicans can wring concessions out of the Senate and White House on spending and entitlement reform as the debt limit nears, but only if they focus on that battleground. Ryan, like the rest of the RINOs, continues to worry more about himself than representing his constituents and upholding the Constitution.

I’d like to point out to everyone just how much conviction the Democrats had when they shoved Obamacare down our throats.

They knew they would lose some of their power, and they did, but they stuck to what their agenda was. Republican leadership doesn’t know how to stick to their principles even if it costs them! This is why people are getting fed up with them and are happy to see men like Ted Cruz speaking out. They don’t have their finger in the wind wondering what side they are on. They have principles that guide them.

Ryan also is shoveling the same BS we heard back during the fiscal cliff debate. Does anyone remember that? “Oh yeah, we’ll hold Obama’s feet to the fire about the fiscal cliff by using the debt ceiling as leverage and threatened no pay for members of Congress if they failed to come up with a budget.” Right. How did that work out for everyone? Last I recall, the debt ceiling increased, Congress still doesn’t have a budget (which is why we are working off of things called Continuing Resolutions), Republican leadership caved to Obama and the Democrats on the fiscal cliff and the American taxpayer got stuck with the bill.

Ryan is merely following the lead of Boehner who is against a government shutdown. If I could challenge Paul Ryan here, I’d tell him to stop worrying about polls on government shutdown and do the right thing. With that in mind though, Rush Limbaugh quoted a Rasmussen poll on Tuesday which showed 51% of voters back a government shutdown until major cuts are made in Obamacare.

“Fifty-one percent of voters favor having a shutdown until Democrats and Republicans agree on what spending for the health care law to cut. Forty percent would rather avoid a government shutdown by authorizing spending for the health care law at existing levels.”

Limbaugh then referred to what took place in 1995 regarding the government shutdown and Republicans should keep this in mind. The conservative talk show host said: “Remember, the Republicans are paranoid of a government shutdown and being blamed for it because of 1995. They don’t want any part of another one. This is really what is guiding the leadership in opposing the Ted Cruz, Mike Lee effort to defund it, and all the other efforts that are out there to deal with it.

They’re just afraid they’re gonna take the hit; the press is gonna cream ‘em; the public’s gonna end up thinking the Republicans are responsible for every problem; the Democrats can’t wait to pounce on it. Of course, you go back to 1995 and in the media it was a disaster for the Republicans. In the real world it wasn’t. They won Senate seats in the year following, in the election following the shutdown.

They gained two seats and they lost nine in the House. It was not a disaster. And from a policy standpoint, what they stood for in that shutdown actually led to Clinton signing welfare reform as something he needed to do to get reelected in 1996. So there’s that.”

There’s also a Fox News poll which indicates:

Nearly 7 out of 10 voters are concerned about their personal health care under the Affordable Care Act and a majority wants to take the health care system back to 2009, according to the latest Fox News national poll. The poll, released Tuesday, finds that 68 percent of voters are concerned about their health care under the new system.

That includes 43 percent ‘very’ concerned and another 25 percent ‘somewhat’ concerned. Continuing Resolutions are really not the issue here. Budgets aren’t necessarily the issue. Funding things under the Enumerated Powers of Congress is. Obamacare is unconstitutional. It is an albatross around the country’s neck and must be destroyed.

Republicans in the House have a chance to do the right thing here, and I’m guessing the results would also be in their favor in 2014 if they do the right thing. If they don’t, then they shouldn’t be surprised when their constituents don’t vote for them.

Levin rails against the ‘imperial president,’ warns GOP not to drop Obamacare fight

Posted on 19 September, 2013 by clyde

According to the Daily Caller On his Wednesday night radio show, Mark Levin pushed back against those who are calling for Republicans not to fight to defund Obamacare as part of the budget fight in the U.S. Congress.
The conservative talk show host and author went on a nearly 13-minute rant about how President Barack Obama believes that no future Congress can undo what a one-term Democratic Congress decided in 2010.
“One Congress for two years — that’s all it was, to impose its will and this president, this imperial president — he insists that no future Congress, not this one, not any one shall have the constitutional authority to reverse course,” Levin said. “So in other words, ladies and gentlemen, what that one Congress did when they had supermajorities in the House and the Senate and as soon as you could get to them — you threw them out in the House. You almost threw them out in the Senate. As soon as you could get to them, you addressed this issue of Obamacare.”
“Obama says, ‘Too damn bad. I’m re-elected, I’m the imperial president. I’m going to shut down the whole damn government. You’re going to take Obamacare. I shoved it down your throat. Now you’re going to digest it, and you’re going to like it, whether you like it or not,’” Levin continued.
Levin, the author of “The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic,” went on to claim part of Obama’s strategy was to shut down the government in order to force people to want Obamacare.
He also addressed congressional Republicans, who have slowly gravitated to passing a continuing resolution to fund the government with the exception of Obamacare. Levin insisted that the Senate and House GOP follow through or face the consequences from their constituents.
“Finally, they get it,” he said. “Now I don’t completely trust them. It’s one thing to propose, it’s one thing to vote. But you got to follow through.”

Boehner: Defunding Battle 'Has Been Won' in House, 'Just Beginning' in Senate

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) talks about deficit-reduction and defunding Obamacare at a news conference on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. (AP File Photo)

(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker John Boehner said several times on Thursday that the fight to defund Obamacare "has been won" in the House, but the fight in the Senate "is just beginning."

"We'll deliver a big victory in the House tomorrow, and then this fight will move over to the Senate, where it belongs. I expect my Senate colleagues to be up for the battle."

A reporter's suggestion that Senate Republicans don't think the continuing resolution is the correct vehicle for defunding Obamacare -- and that Republicans will be blamed for a government shutdown -- produced a flash of temper:

"Well, guess what, we're having the fight over here -- we're going to win the fight over here. It's time for them to pick up the mantle and get the job done."

Boehner several times refused to predict what the Senate might do about a continuing resolution that funds all of government except Obamacare. That's the legislation that the House will pass on Friday.

On the debate over raising the nation's borrowing limit, Boehner made it clear that Republicans have "no interest in defaulting on our debt. None. We just want to find a way to pay it off. That's why the House will act on a plan that will reduce the deficit and includes pro-growth economic reforms, including the delay of the president's health care law.

"There's a common-sense principal here: If we're going to raise the debt ceiling, you should work to reduce the deficit and grow the economy at the same time."

Boehner noted that every major deficit-reduction plan over the last 30 years has been tied to the debt limit. "This time should be no different," he said.

He called it troubling the President Obama "has decided to just sit out this debate -- he says he won't engage. You know, most presidents refer to their bipartisan efforts to reduce the deficit as achievements -- the president sees this quote-unquote as 'extortion.' So while the president is happy to negotiate with Vladimir Putin, he won't engage with the Congress on a plan that deals with the deficits that threaten our economy."

Boehner said a debt limit increase without any deficit-reduction "just isn't going to cut it."
