It's time to stop foreign handouts and take care of Americans

Picture yourself at age 60, just fired from your job for a company excuse, and your unemployment has run out. What do you do? You see all the articles about what the United Way does for people, but as you soon discover, few of these so-called agencies will to offer assistance to a single person who suddenly has no income. Imagine that.

I don't have to because that's me.

A single person at age 60 has no options from which to choose in order to survive. There are no free clinics here like the larger cities have. You can definitely forget about mental health assistance. If a person has medical problems and no income, they can seek help at the hospital, but as far as treatment for mental health issues goes, no dice. You are on your own.

You read where women with children are given assistance. That doesn't apply to single people who have worked for more than 40 years until their health declined as a result. Who is to blame for that? Just because mandatory overtime is the curse of American workers, that doesn't mean companies are responsible for working you until you've fallen apart. After all, if you didn't want to work 24/7, you shouldn't be working for us.

Even illegal immigrants are offered emergency assistance. How does that work, exactly? Is a person who never pays taxes and doesn't work eligible for public assistance? Single women are told to get pregnant if they want assistance. When does our country stop handing out money it can ill afford to people from everywhere else?

What sort of progress have any of the officials in this area made toward creating jobs? Take a look around. Are there more jobs available than there were, say five years ago? No. Each side is pointing the finger at the other. Well, don't bother. All of you are to blame.

Why is it so difficult for our public officials to comprehend that the tax well has finally run dry? When you have fewer employed taxpayers, you have fewer tax dollars. It's simple economics. That kind of math isn't hard to understand, is it?

Finding ways to cut the budget isn't as difficult as members of Congress seem to believe. If we are having problems repaying our national debt, why not put an end to foreign aid, period. If we cannot afford to pay our own debts, how can we afford to offer financial aid to every other country on the planet? Why is our country expected to solve the problems of every other country when we can't even solve our own?

Call me unreasonable for thinking oil companies do not need subsidies. We're already paying through the nose for gasoline. Too many decisions in our government are made at the behest of the oil industry. Imagine all the money we could save by putting an end to those. Research on alternative fuels has been going on for years, but we never seem to be able to stop supporting the lavish lifestyles of Arab royalty.

Cutting funding for NASA is another money-saving suggestion. Since when is an agency of the United States government so flush with funds that it can commission artists to paint tributes to our accomplishments in space? Since the space race is over, why is money still being spent for us to go there? We simply do not have the money to waste trying to reach for the stars when our infrastructure here is falling apart on so many levels.

The United States has a sizable population trapped in the grip of poverty. While I am all for offering assistance to other countries suffering from poverty, I believe we should solve our own problems first before we start trying to offer them a solution to theirs. Why have the poor in this country taken a back seat to the poor of every other country? We've become the most generous but most criticized country on the planet.

Which country comes to our aid when we suffer a catastrophe? Does any other country come rushing to our aid the way we are expected to and do when they have a disaster? No. They disdain everything about us and our way of life, even though they still have their hands out for foreign aid. I suggest there should finally be an end to the foreign handouts.

Our leadership has absolutely no common sense, as a person nearing 70 I pay more in insurance and property tax then my young relatives who receive Medicaid, eye glasses,dental,hearing help, wic, etc, etc. while my insurance pays little to none in the above list, we're denied cola raises in SS yet the money saved is sent to Libya or other such country for nation building. We're lost in a sea of ignorance our leaders appear brain damaged believe all the America people are rich as they or feeding off taxpayers as they. We're in a world of hurt and the end results I'm concerned will not be good.

Simply our priorities are messed up.

That is there way of siphoning money out of our country...

I think they know all that stuff is wrong, it's just they have wrong motives and are just going to do what they want at the expense of everyone else.

I have been saying this for more than a decade. It has gone on far too long and it's time to cut the freebies off. We have become the laughing stock of the world.

Besides, who in their right mind pays their enemies?

They told me because my job is seasonal that I was eligible for $126 a month in foodstamps! They said no when I asked if I could buy beer with them! Jerks! Malt and Barley is fiber right?

How is it then illegal invaders with NO JOB can get $200 a month in foodstamps on behalf of their anchor babies, who are not even old enough to have a job!

Everyone else seemingly has no problems buying beers with their foodstamps. Why not roofer! You need to find yourself a crooked liquor store owner, who will gladly give you 50 cents on the dollar and buy your beer with that.

Here they ring up a six pack as 2 gallons of milk and a loaf of bread. The price of a six pack having gone up here it might be a few other things thrown in now.
