Grassfire Petition to Secure Our Borders

The new Specter immigration reform bill hasn't even
been officially announced, and already anti-immigration
organizations and certain Latino groups are protesting--
    for differing reasons.

Just yesterday a group of approximately 200 Latinos
joined for a prayer vigil protesting the new legislation.
There they were told that the new legislation would
violate their rights to seek a better life. In fact,
immigration attorney, Miryam Antunez de Mayolo told
the crowd "the new bill would criminalize entering
    the country illegally."

Latinos who are here legally should be upset at the new
legislation, as should every American. The new legislation
is fraught with holes and opportunities for massive fraud.

Here's what you need to know:

--The plan would let undocumented immigrants already
living in the U.S. obtain green cards if they pay
$2,000 fines, passed a background check, paid back
    taxes and learned English.

(This provision came from the McCain/Kennedy bill, and
is supported by advocacy groups, and some labor unions).

--No undocumented immigrants can get green cards until
after the existing backlog of about 3 million visas
for workers and family members of citizens and
    permanent residents is processed.

--The U.S. will allow about 400,000 foreign workers to
enter legally each year. They could stay for two years
before returning home (they could also apply for a six-
    year extension).

(This is part of the McCain/Kennedy and Cornyn bills).

-- Perhaps the most controversial of issues is the fact
that the new legislation would allow undocumented
immigrants to receive permanent residence ahead of
foreigners who have applied for visas and waited in
their home countries for the paperwork to be processed.

In other words, the new legislation (among other things)
    rewards illegal behavior!

Grassfire cannot support the Specter plan.
Instead, we support the Sensenbrenner bill (that passed the
House by a margin of 88 percent). This legislation actually
seeks to address the illegal immigration crisis.

The Specter plan in its current state is little more than an
amnesty program--annually granting more than a million green
cards for employment-based, family-based and student immigrants.

And it doesn't even address the massive fraud that the plan
will birth once it is put into place.

Next week Grassfire will be traveling to Washington to present
your petitions to Sen. Specter's office and members of the
Judiciary urging them to craft a bill that more closely
    resembles the Sensenbrenner bill.

Our goal is to deliver at least 250,000 petitions.

As it stands we have about a week to rally about 15,000 new
signatures. martha, will you help us reach this goal
by forwarding this message to your friends?

Urge them to have a voice for our national security by
    signing our petition:

We need to get this message out to the nation before it's
too late! Thank you for taking action with us.

P.S: By reaching an additional 15,000 signers over the next
week, we can demonstrate the importance of this issue to our elected officials.

Grassfire is deceptive and gathered up signtatures before where people said NO to Guest Worker then turned around and tried to use those signatures to support the Cornyn Kyle bill which contained Guest Worker.

Grassfire is looking like nothing but a RNC Cheerleading squad if you ask me.

    William,

Grassfire was supporting Cornyn before, but now it sounds like they realize they were duped and are against the Specter bill. Don't you think we should support anything that is against the Specter bill, as long as it doesn't include amnesty?

I unsubscribed from them and had my signature removed as soon as I got wind of that. I was not happy at all.
