Thanks for alerting us to Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation.

I was just considering an interesting parallel between the first Thanksgiving and the current issue of illegal immigration and I thought I'd toss it out there for everyone else to ponder.

Settlers (eventually evolving into Americans) came to Plymouth Rock tired, hungry, and weary. The original inhabitants of the land helped them survive by extending not only a hand of friendship, but also needed supplies and advice. (Sound familiar?)

As the settlers numbers grew, they eventually spread out over vast areas, creating competition for resources with the natives that befriended them. This evolved into conflict, replacing the friendship that once existed. The outcome, however immoral or unjust it may now be deemed, is now recorded in the pages of history and should be viewed as just that, history. The challenge however, of a thinking and rational people should be to learn from past mistakes to avoid repeating them.

I submit that the mistakes of the past are being repeated even now, and rational and thinking people need to wake up to what is increasilngly becoming the promise of a future to come. The numbers do not lie, no matter how emotional and troubling the decisions may become.
