California’s 20-term Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman announced his retirement today, but not before taking the low road.

The New York Times explains his reasons for leaving with this quote:
“It’s been frustrating because of the extremism of Tea Party Republicans,” Mr. Waxman said in an interview on Wednesday. “Nothing seems to be happening.”
It’s always easier to blame others for your shortcomings than it is to take responsibility for your bad ideas and inability to make progress…

Update: Now it looks like Sandra Fluke (yes, the one who wants taxpayer-funded prophylactics) is thinking about running for Henry Waxman’s seat. Via Politico:

“I’m flattered that I’m being discussed as a potential candidate. A number of folks I respect very deeply have reached out today and encouraged me to run. I am strongly considering running.”
Sandra Fluke as a “social justice advocate” in Congress? Better hold on to your wallets.
