Hillary Attacks China
Hillary Attacks China
Friday, November 23, 2007 10:42 PM
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton Friday slammed China for calling her criticism of made-in-China toys "slander," and urged Washington to take "immediate, decisive steps" to protect US children.
Clinton's statement came a day after China railed against her warning Tuesday of a dangerous tide of Chinese-made gifts, saying that "any slander or exaggeration of facts is irresponsible."
"This is the same government that just this month revoked the licenses of more than 750 of its toy companies because of quality control problems and ordered another 690 to renovate or improve their facilities, even as it asserted that 99 percent of toy exports met quality standards," Clinton said in her statement.
"And the Chinese government's watchdog agency reported earlier this year that 20 percent of the toys made and sold in China pose safety risks. That is unacceptable."
Clinton also took up China's claim that the majority of problems with Chinese toy exports were due to "design faults by (foreign) importers and designers."
The New York Senator said US companies "have to do a better job at every stage of the process ... to make sure that the toys they are bringing into this country -- and profiting from -- do not pose risks to children."
"As the holiday shopping season begins," Clinton said, "our government should be taking immediate, decisive steps to ensure that the toys we are importing from China and other countries are safe."
China is the world's top toy exporter, selling 22 billion toys overseas last year, or 60 percent of the globe's total.
Chinese-made products ranging from seafood to car tires have been targeted in a spate of overseas safety recalls this year, with toys in the spotlight in recent months.
In one high profile case, US toy giant Mattel recalled 18 million toys in August, including Barbie Dolls and Batman action figures, amid concern the toys had been made with toxic lead paints and magnets that posed a choking risk to children.

The China lobbiests will have a lot of shoring up to do when the Senate returns.Seems that Sen.Clinton didn't the label China put on her.If we could just see her half as excited and outraged about illegal immigration I might could see myself sympathizing with her.I said I might, not that I would.

The fault isn't with the Chinese, as they're provided with the matierals and just piece the stuff together. The companies that look to open mfg plants there have their people on the ground from incepetion to production. The toy companies don't have anyone looking over their shoulders and if something goes wrong ... it's real easy to make the host country where you had the product built the scapegoat.
I have several family members that have quit working for projects in China because the companies here are aware of how they're cutting costs and where the blame will fall in the public eye with outsourcing being such a sore spot with everyone here.
Remember who is cutting the checks for the raw materials. The average factory worker/foreman in a communist country doesn't exactly have a govt that puts a whole lot of emphasis on public safety when you have over a billion citizens.
Everyone here all saw the events in Tienanmen Square.

"Made in China" is becoming as offensive as a good case of stomach flu!
And, what is the difference between communist Cuba and communist
China?? Guess its another case of follow the money.
I had no idea that we were eating, wearing, feeding our animals all this
stuff from China. When will corporations see that they are missing a
golden opportunity to capture a huge share of any and all markets by
making things in the USA? So they will cost a little more....at least we
can again eat without wondering whats in the food. We wouldnt have
to read the fine print on toothpaste tubes to make sure it wasnt riddled
with antifreeze and we could rest assured that the pet food we feed
our "fur children" is not poisoned. Why are we in bed with an overpopulated
communist country? Can we not see past the price tags?
OK, my rant for the day/night......jumping off the soapbox.PROMOTE SELF DEPORTATION, ENFORCE OUR
LAWS!

Duncan Hunter has been warning us about China for years. He fought hard against giving China most-favored nation trading status. The Hildabeast is a johnny come lately on any issue dealing with the China trade issue.

Go back a few years to the Clinton administration, do a little research, and you'll discover that an Asian bagman was bringing millions of dollars from Communist China to the Clintons.
The Clintons and their minions even sold our military secrets to the Red Menace.
Shrillary is putting on yet another of her many faces, just to hopefully be elected. Don't believe a word the shrew speaks. She is as much a traitor to this nation as Barack Obama bin-Laden or Senor el Presidente Jorge Boosh.
I'm certain that she has cleared her comments with her Red Chinese cohorts, explaining that her criticism of them now will be politically useful during the election, and promised them even more special favors if/when she is elected.
