House Judiciary Com. to Vote Today on Foreign-Worker Bills
    Updated Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 10:00 AM

Public Notice for Markup Given in Dead of Night Yesterday

The House Judiciary Committee will take up two foreign-worker bills today: H.R. 5882, which would add an additional 550,000 permanent green cards; and H.R. 5924, which would add 20,000 additional foreign nurses per year for three years (plus their families). Please contact your U.S. Representative through the Capitol Switchboard (202-224-3121) and ask him/her to do everything possible to stop the passage of these bills. The Committee waited until late last night to give notice for the markup, presumably in an effort to avoid public scrutiny.

    H.R. 5882 – "Recapturing Unused Employer-Sponsored Visas"
This legislation is similar to the measure that Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) is using to hijack debate on E-Verify reauthorization in the Senate. The bill’s sponsor, Immigration Subcommittee Chairman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif), claims it would “recapture unused employer-sponsored visasâ€

According to our adversaries on this issue, the committee just adjourned again without even getting to 5882. They are upset of course. To clarify for the new readers on this issue: many of the people who were calling in favor of this bill are here on temporary guestworker visas, the H-1B, and they want the extra green cards so they can get the right to stay here more quickly (and bring others in). The H-1B does not promise or guarantee the right to immigrate, but you'd never know that from the expectations that many of these folks have.

That's ludicrous!!! Why should these people even have a say in this? They are only here temporarily. If you want to stay here, do it the right way and apply for citizenship.

NumbersUSA says the same thing they afraid that one or both of these might be furtively attached to a must pass bill.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Most of them have already applied for green cards, and are merely tired of the wait, and worried that their employment may tank before they get their green card, so they'll be forced to go home. They want to stay at all costs, and pry the door open for their countrymen to do the same. They also outnumber us 3-4 to one.

    Thanks for the updates BetsyRoss.

Does anyone have any latest news on E-verify reauthorization?

It's been very hard to get news. I've had to watch opposition sites like a hawk just to be as up on it as I have been. THEY sure seem to know when their bills are coming up.
