Some News from Grassroots Secure Fence Act

    Hello,
Due to a huge Kidney Stone I have been out of the Political Arena for about 3 weeks. Good Drugs and all. I got this email and was wondering if it has merit? Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

During the mid-term elections, desperate Republicans
(perhaps sensing defeat) sought to rally their dwindling base
by boldly announcing to the voting public that they were the
one party to be counted on to secure our borders!
Their message resonated throughout the nation that citizens
would finally be safe and secure because Republicans would see
to it that a double-layer fence would be built. But when the
cameras were off, Republican leadership struck a deal with
others in Congress to de-fund the fence--essentially making sure
    it was never built.
In fact, the same day Congress passed the Secure Fence Act
mandating 854 miles of double-layer fencing be built, a plan
was already underway to dismantle it--a plan spearheaded by
Kay Bailey Hutchison, Dennis Hastert, and Bill Frist.
This was nothing more than a political ploy-- nothing
more than empty rhetoric, and you and I were none the wiser.
    But it gets worse.
Remember three billion dollars that was supposed to fund the
    construction of the double-layered fence?
As of right now, nothing in the current Department of Homeland
Security Appropriations bill specifically funds the double-
layered fence. In fact, DHS has complete discretion of the
fence with no ties to the Secure Fence Act.
And the worst part... Congress will have successfully scammed the
American public when they approve the DHS Appropriations bill
before the end of the year...

UNBELIEVABLE-HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP DROPS BORDER SECURITY PROVISION!

    To:
    President George Bush
    Rep. William Delahunt
    Sen. Edward Kennedy
    Sen. John Kerry

    November 9, 2007

House Democratic leadership(?) is dragging the Democratic Party's name through the mud by instructing conferees to strip border enforcement funding out of the DoD appropriations bill.

The American public already lacks faith in this Congress' ability to secure the border and enforce our laws. Failures and broken promises for over 20 years-amnesty citizenship of 1986!!

The House Democratic leadership has done little to restore the public's faith by removing the funds necessary for the enforcement we have been asking for.

That $3 billion dollars would have gone a long way toward establishing operational control of the border. Please ensure that these funds are provided before Congress recesses for the holidays.

    Background:

The Senate passed its version of the Department of Defense (DoD) Appropriations bill (H.R. 3222), which included a provision by
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to set aside $3 billion for border security,

.....but the House-Senate negotiators, under guidance from the House Democratic leadership, removed the $3 billion in conference.

Sen. Graham sponsored the amendment to the DoD bill with Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), which would:

    -Provide funding to construct 700 miles of fencing;

    -Provide funding to procure Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), ground sensors, and vehicle barriers;

-Increase the ability to detain illegal aliens who overstay their visas and commit other crimes; and

-Provide funding for states and localities that undergo training to assist the Federal government in enforcing immigration law.

The Senate voted in October to attach the $3 billion in funding to the DoD bill by a vote of 95 to 1.

Senators Graham, Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Jim Demint (R-S.C.), Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Mel Martinez (R-Fla.), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), and Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) held a press conference on November 7 to decry the removal of the border security funding from the DoD bill.

"It is outrageous that the leadership yanked this critical funding from the final bill," Senator Dole said, "The Senate spoke loud and clear on this issue, and now a select few have decided to ignore the number one lesson learned from the Senate's failed immigration bill - that Americans simply don't have confidence that their government is serious about securing our borders and enforcing our laws."

....The Democratic Party was provided majority leadership in both the House and Senate in 2006, largely due to independents like myself.

If the Democratic Party does not embrace border security and immigration enforcement, they will pay a heavy price in 2008.

The American majority will NOT support elected officials that do not support our nations sovereignty and legal citizens-taxpayers.

.....CITIZENS: Please contact your Representative and decry the removal of the $3 billion in border security funds.

Let your Representative know that House Democratic leadership is leading them astray and against the desire of his/her constituents that Congress adequately fund the border security measures that have been promised.

Please visit www.numbersusa.com if you truly believe in border security and immigration enforcement, and citizens-taxpayers rights.

I hope we won't, but we have been doing it for 30 years.

The political slant on this leads me to believe we will. This is a by-partisan effort to not do anything about immigration. It's a charade.

I don't understand how the Dems that are responsible for this have the power to do this. After all, the if the fence was made law and, according to Duncan Hunter, the money was appropriated for it, how is it that they can take the money away?
