Well, yes and no. It's not only the desire to accumulate wealth that is decried, but also the desire to control it. Judas Iscariot provides a lesson for modern Liberals, for example.

If you will recall, the event that set Judas against Christ was the episode in which the woman with the alabaster box "wasted," to Judas' was of thinking, the expensive oil of spikenard washing Jesus' feet. Judas was of the opinion that the costly oil should have been sold to provide alms for the poor. So angry was Judas at the "wasting" of the oil that he eventually turned in Christ for the reward money, ostensibly to give that money to the poor.

Now let's ask ourselves a question. Was the oil in the alabaster box the property of Judas, or of the woman who chose to use it to wash Jesus' feet? Was Christ's freedom the property of Judas to sell? Did Judas want the money that the sale of the oil would have brought or that he received in exchange for his betrayal of Christ for himself or for others? Even so, it was his desire to control that property that was not his to control that led him to evil.

So it is with modern Liberals who wish to determine how much of the property of other people should be confiscated and redistributed. They tell themselves that they are going good and engaging in works of charity, but can the giving of someone else's substance be considered to be charity? When Judas Iscariot realized the answer to that question, he killed himself in shame over his actions, yet today's Liberals revel in their theft. It's worth considering how sinful this sort of behavior - theft of the property of others for the purpose of the assuaging of one's own guilt - happens to be.
