Tancredo Reacts to Illegal Immigration Rallies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) made the following statement in reaction to today’s illegal immigration rallies:

“Several years ago, when I visited Juan Hernandez, the former Minister for Mexicans Living in the United States, he told me that the more Mexicans living in the U.S. – both legally and illegally – the more our government would be influenced on behalf of Mexico. Illegal immigration serves both Mexico’s political and economic interests.

“Today’s rallies show how entrenched the illegal alien lobby has become over the last several years. The iron triangle of illegal employers, foreign governments and groups like La Raza puts tremendous pressure on our elected officials to violate the desires of law-abiding Americans and to grant amnesty. But as nearly every recent poll shows, Americans want secure borders – not amnesty – and sooner or later they’ll elect representatives who will listen to their constituents.

“The illegal alien lobby has upgraded its PR, instructing protestors to trade in their foreign flags for red, white and blue. But make no mistake about it: amnesty is an affront to American law and America’s tradition of legal immigration. If the protestors really want to honor America’s values, they would stand up to lawbreakers and embrace an enforcement-first approach to fixing our broken system.

“Protestors tried to demonize those who want secure borders because it’s easier to hide behind nasty names and half truths than to articulate a position. It is not true that the House reform bill was intended to make felons of illegal aliens – Democrats inserted that provision as a poison pill. It is not true that we want to criminalize priests or hospitals that help illegal aliens – the House bill doesn’t substantially change the law that has been on the books for 20 years. The House bill does secure our borders and crack down on illegal employers and it refuses amnesty. Demonizing well-meaning Americans doesn’t play well in the heartland, and it’s not helpful to Congress as we grapple with this difficult issue.”
"The defense of a nation begins at it's borders" Tancredo

I just have this strange feeling that we are on the cusp of something that will change all America and Americans forever.

Just cannot pin it down to exactly what, but batten down the hatches.

Not that I doubt Tancredo (he's one of my heros), but does anyone have some solid proof of this? Sites that say how the bill was put together, commentary on the house proceedings, etc..?

If anyone has this information, please let me know. I definetly have a use for it so it would be much appriciated.

    protest marches

From the CNN report Rallies across U.S. call for illegal immigrant rights
“In Washington, protesters held up signs proclaiming, "We Are America."”
They are NOT America. We, the citizens of this country ARE America.
"What we want to achieve is to send a very strong message to the Senate, to the Congress in general and this administration that immigrants are fed up, that we are tired, that we work very hard," Contreras said.
If Mr. Contreras thinks he is tired he should listen to the American people. They are tired of hearing illegal immigrants demanding that we make them citizens and telling the American people that they have “rights” and what our laws should be. The American people are tired of their representative’s kowtowing to people who are not citizens and who in fact have no legal right in OUR country. These are people that have invaded OUR country and defied the laws of OUR sovereign nation. Yet they have the audacity to DEMAND that OUR laws be changed to accommodate them. Right, accommodate people who have no respect for the laws of OUR country!
No one is saying that illegals are not hard workers. That isn’t the point. Undermining the rule of law is. Respecting our country is. Controlling who and how many come to OUR country is.
Mr. Contreras is right about one thing. “The sleeping giant is awake – Wide awake”. That sleeping giant is the citizenry of the United States of America. And we are demanding that OUR representatives stand for the “rule of law” and enforce the laws of OUR country.
Many of those illegal immigrants demonstrating in the streets of OUR country with impunity are flying OUR flag UNDER their flag and UPSIDE down. If they think that endears them in the hearts of Americans they are sadly mistaken.
We hear the same old: “We are not criminals” and “we come to work”. If that were true they would show respect for OUR laws and come to OUR country LEGALLY.
California, Cardinal Roger Mahony says, "We are all God's children, united for a just immigration reform. We all deserve respect and care." How about a little respect for the laws of this country Cardinal.

I think it's hurting them too. I have heard many ppl say that seeing them on TV waving flags, holding up signs, blocking traffic and making demands is making their blood boil.

There was an amendment #656 offered by James Sensenbrenner, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Reading Sensenbrenner's comments that would have the effect of leaving the penalties the same as they are in current law, thus making the crimes a misdemeanor - not a felony.

The amendment was rejected by the House because all Democrats except 8 voted AGAINST it, and 65 Republicans voted against it. Voting for the amendment were only 8 Democrats and 115 Republicans.

This essentially confirms Rep. Tancredo's account.

I have that same feeling. I feel like of reps of our own gov. are stabbing us repeatedly in the back. If Amnesty goes through or any reform that lets the invaders off the hook I will have lost much pride in our nation and all faith in our leaders. I am already tired of the rhetoric of it all all over the television. How much bull do they intend for the American people to take? And what does talking it to death solve? How many more enemies of the USA do they intend to let in while they are hunting easter eggs?
    SECURE THE BORDERS NOW!

It’s already happened. Spanish is here to stay. Spanish media is big business. Those who control these media have no interest in seeing it decline.
