Ilhan Omar accuses America of committing ‘atrocities’ at southern border

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., rose to new heights of outrage Thursday, accusing America of committing “atrocities” on the southern border after yet another migrant child died in U.S. custody.
Omar shared the story of a 10-year-old girl with a history of congenital heart defects who made the dangerous journey from El Salvador to the United States. A spokesman for the Department of Health and Human services said the girl arrived in a “medically fragile” state and died in U.S. custody after complications from surgery.
Omar blamed America for her death and the deaths of other migrant children in U.S. custody.
This narrative of blaming America first for the border crisis is a popular line of attack on the Trump administration from the Left. Another House Democrat, Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., recently accused the administration of intentionally killing migrant children, saying during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing that these deaths were “more than a question of resources.”
“Congress has been more than willing to provide resources and to work with you to address the security and humanitarian concerns,” Underwood said. “But at this point, with five kids that have died, 5,000 separated from their families, I feel like, and the evidence is really clear, that this is intentional. It’s intentional. It’s a policy choice being made on purpose by this administration, and it’s cruel and inhumane.”
After Underwood’s comments were criticized by Republicans, she was backed up by yet another leftist, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who went even further and accused the United States of trafficking children.
The rhetoric coming from these Democrats is divorced from any semblance of fact or reality. Just a few months ago, when President Trump asked Congress to secure the border and prevent tragedies like this, Democrats and their media allies were denying that any sort of crisis existed at all. House Democrats have repeatedly refused to give the Trump administration the funding necessary to secure the border and process the unprecedented flow of migrants attracted to the U.S. by weak border laws and the promise of amnesty. Now the Left is opportunistically using the deaths of children to attack Trump for not doing enough to solve a crisis Congress refuses to address.
The accusation that the United States government is committing “atrocities” like human trafficking is outrageous on its face. If you bother to read the story Omar shared, you’ll find that the poor child was given medical care in the United States that she was otherwise unable to obtain traveling across Central America. The reality is that the American government tried to save that girl’s life. It’s the transnational cartels that are trafficking human beings and importing drugs and horrific acts of violence into the United States, harming both migrants and Americans.
President Trump is trying to save migrant lives and American lives by securing the border, and Democrats are wasting time in Congress investigating bogus obstruction of justice claims and ignoring real issues. Americans ought to turn the question on Omar and the other Democrats. How many migrant children must die before the Democratic majority appropriates funds that Border Patrol, DHS, and President Trump say they need to secure the border? How many Americans must die at the hands of illegal immigrant criminals before Democrats address our border crisis?

They had no problem reporting about the group of Covington Catholic students wearing Make America Great Again hats staring at a native American and calling the kids racist but this story? Freaking crickets.

A mob of eight to 10 males wielding hammers descended upon bystanders at the East Bank Light Rail station on Friday night injuring several, according to recorded police dispatch audio.
The incident was apparently reported to 911 just before 10 p.m. on Friday according to the audio and other social media police scanner reports. A 9:48 p.m. Facebook post on 2nd Precinct Minneapolis Crime Watch page said that University of Minnesota (U of M) police were requesting assistance from Minneapolis police (MPD) and Metro Transit police for “a group of 8-10 males chasing people with hammers” and that some people were injured. A Facebook post a minute later on Minneapolis Scanner page said that the three police departments were responding to “multiple [911] calls” about “10-12 Somali teen males armed with hammers chasing people,” also with “several injuries reported.” Both Facebook pages regularly post summaries of police scanner audio.

A person who claimed on social media to have been at the station when the incident occurred said that the group of males had “hammers and bars,” and that they seemed to be “attacking anyone who looked like they had money or were white.” The witness, who said he isn’t white, said he didn’t want to “[take] on a bunch of dudes with blunt objects,” and that he “hurried an older white lady away” and they walked a few blocks to catch a bus.
On Wednesday there was an attempted robbery at the same location during which two U of M students were injured, according to a media report. It’s unknown whether these incidents are related.
Alpha News reported an update:

We received the redacted police report from the University of Minnesota police department on this incident, which includes a detailed narrative of the events, and details describing the perpetrators as a “group of Somali juveniles.” The report describes the two juveniles cited as between the ages of 12 and 15. The two juveniles were cited with misdemeanor fleeing police and disorderly conduct. One of the two juveniles was also charged with misdemeanor false information to police.

“How Many More Children Must Die?” – Ilhan Omar Accuses US of Atrocities on Border

Following the smear by Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL) that the Border Patrol is intentionally killing migrant children, fellow freshman Democrat leftist Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN) accused the United States of committing atrocities on the border.

Underwood’s inflammatory statement was made during a House hearing on Wednesday and was “taken down” by a majority committee vote on strict party lines 9-7 with 10 absent Democrats enabling the GOP a rare committee vote victory.
Omar, who came to the U.S. in 1992 as a legal asylum seeker with her family from war-torn Somalia, tweeted on Thursday about the death of a sixth Central American migrant child in US custody in the past eight months, accusing the U.S. of committing “atrocities”:

“How many more children must die before we address the atrocities our country is committing at our southern border?”
Omar keyed off a USA Today article that reported on the deceased child’s care:

The death toll of migrant children in U.S. custody in the past year rose to six on Wednesday after federal authorities acknowledged that a 10-year-old girl from El Salvador died eight months ago after being detained by border agents.
Ironically, the child — who died Sept. 29 — was the first migrant minor to die in U.S. custody in the past year. But her death was not reported by authorities until Wednesday, when CBS News broke the story.
…Mark Weber, a spokesperson for the Health and Human Services, said in a statement to CBS News that the girl had a history of congenital heart defects. When she entered the care of an Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) facility in San Antonio, Texas, on March 4, 2018, she was in a “medically fragile” state, Weber said.
“Following a surgical procedure, complications left the child in a comatose state. She was transported to a nursing facility in Phoenix, Arizona, for palliative care in May after release from a San Antonio hospital,” Weber said. “On September 26, she was transferred to an Omaha, Neb., nursing facility to be closer to her family. On September 29, the child was transported to Children’s Hospital of Omaha where she passed due to fever and respiratory distress.”

Meanwhile, the Democrats like Omar are silent about the dead children drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande this past month, presumably because those deaths can’t be directly blamed on President Trump and the United States.
