CENTENNIAL — An Arapahoe County judge today found there was enough evidence to go to trial in the case of an illegal immigrant who shot and paralyzed a girl outside her Aurora high school in December.

Luis Guzman-Rincon, 19, will enter his plea at an arraignment scheduled for June 27.

He faces 16 charges in the shooting of Karina Vargas, a 16-year-old girl who was talking with friends across the street of Aurora Central High School on Dec. 6 when she was shot, the unintended victim of gang warfare.

Guzman-Rincon is being held in the Arapahoe County jail on $100,000 bail.

He is believed to be in the United States illegally, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on him.

Vargas was shot once in the back and doctors say she will likely never walk again.
