immigration bill woes
Did anyone see Elizabeth Dole's statement from her website?
http://dole.senate.gov/index.cfm?Fus...il&Topic_id=55
I voted against the 2006 Senate immigration reform bill which includes amnesty. I have maintained that securing our borders and enforcing current laws must come first – and unfortunately this bill puts amnesty first. I would support using a temporary worker program to help fill jobs that American workers do not want. But I cannot and will not support granting amnesty to those who have broken our laws and entered this nation illegally.
In addition, the Senate bill contains a number of provisions that just defy common sense, such as allowing illegal immigrants who fraudulently use a U.S. citizen’s Social Security number to accumulate and collect benefits from an already tight Social Security trust fund!
As we saw in 1986, passing an amnesty bill is not going to solve the problem of large scale illegal immigration – to solve this problem, we need strict border enforcement, effective work place verification, and a program for genuinely temporary workers.
Elizabeth Dole
Emphasis in bold print is mine. Anyone else seen or heard anything about this part of the bill? Can anyone elaborate?Ron Paul 2008

Well, I guess we now know exactly where Sen. Dole (R-NC) stands on the new amnesty bill. That should make William (ALIPAC) feel better."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

Elizabeth ... we already have a temporary guest worker program ... it's called US Immigration Law.
But hey Elizabeth ... what jobs won't Americans do and who told you Americans wouldn't do them?
Are little Leprechans whispering in your ear at night through your hair net telling you Americans won't do the jobs Americans have done for nigh on 3 centuries?
May I suggest a new sleeping pill?

It really pays to be an ilegal in this country!! The benefits are
astounding! Not only do they come into the country illegally,
they falsify documents, committ crimes and get rewarded with
amnesty and social security benefits!
Outrageous!!!

Right now, I could care less about her feelings on a guest worker program - I'm just thankful she has made it publicly known that she will not vote on this amnesty bill!

Oh, but it could be this time around. To my knowledge the complete text has not been made available to the general public yet - heck, I've heard a few of the finer points aren't even worked out yet.

Actually, I'm still trying to figure out if this statement is new (and referring to this new amnesty bill) or if it is referring strictly to last year's bill (and the link is old). It seems like it could be interpreted either way. One thing that makes me think it is referring to this new bill is that the link is posted under "Hot Topics" on Dole's homepage. What do you all think?
