    Important! "Frist's Amnesty Plan"

Illegal aliens in the country for more than five years would not have to leave the country to apply for amnesty if "Frist's Amnesty Plan" is implemented.

This is another Frist sell-out to business and agricultural interests, as American voters will soon figure out. I predict Republicans will lose the House in November if this bill passes.

I wouldn't be so concerned about the Repubs loosing in November or in 08. The number 1 issue is this insane guest worker program. After that is over, then we can focus on the elections. However, don't be surprised if the Repubs loose in November, depending on the outcome of all of this. We need to keep an accurate account of those who vote for amnesty.

WE NEED A THIRD PARTY, forget the repubs and dems, they are corrupt. They no longer represent us.

Illegal immigrants here longer than five years would not be required to return home; those in the country less than two years would be required to leave without assurances of returning, and take their place in line with others seeking entry papers.
So this IS amnesty for an illegal who claims to have been here for over five years.

By contrast, the Republican approach requires illegal immigrants who have been in the United States between two years and five years to return to their home country briefly, then re-enter as temporary workers. They could then begin a process of seeking citizenship.
And if more than two and less than five, they go back, come right back into the US with amnesty.

The only good thing about the Republican plan is that it's not as bad as the Democratic plan, amnesty lite and amnesty.

I don't see anything good or any difference.

Frist's bill suggests that all these people are going to line up to be separated into their 'groups'.

We know that isn't going to happen. The only ones who will voluntarily come forward are those than can 'prove' they qualify - with or without forged documents.

That is going to leave the millions who know they won't qualify.

We know the 'less than 5 year but more than 2' are going to come forward to make that UTurn in Mexico - risking not getting back in - or risk being caught as a felon, etc. - don't we???

Then we have the 'less than 2 years'. Hey they gotta go - so we just know they are going to voluntarily show up - don't we??

The ones who will never, ever show up are the gangbangers, the felons, the drug dealers, etc.

So, then the question is what do we do about those that don't show up?

The figure is really more than 12 million - so there will be probably more than 12 million in the 'less than 5 year group' -

How are they going to deal with that? They say they can't round up 11 million now - when they stick out like a sore thumb. How are they going to round them up when we are awash in a sea of 'legalized' foreigners?

And what about the non-Mexicans - and there are quite a few. Mexico is not going to let them come into Mexico to make the UTurn and they certainly aren't going to let them come into Mexico to 'apply like everyone else"?

This bill, as it is written, supposes the federal government is going to do exactly what it keeps saying it can't do - deport 11 million illegals.

It does nothing - but make the situation worse.

according to a WashingtonPost article this morning, that is true BUT-- they would have to prove that they lived here as responsible people by showing utility bill receipts, rent receipts, etc.

While I don't agree with this, at least it is more sensible than just asking them how long they lived here and then handing them legal documents. It will certainly cull out the "herd."
