Illegals in my office today
I had to work the entire day with three illegal alien "painters" in my office today. Only one spoke broken English, the other's couldn't speak any English. The supervisor, who couldn't speak Spanish, had to show some of them how to paint. I wondered if they picked them up at a day labor site.
I work in a Government Law Enforcement office, yet there was nothing I could do short of calling ICE to show up at my office and that would have gotten my job in jeopardy.
They were working as a sub-contractor (I have no idea what their company is) for the contractor that is remodeling in my office. The Contractor is hired by the Government entity and I have no idea what the company of the contractor is either. I would have been inevitable that if I spoke up or tried to do some question asking or digging, I would have been the one in the hot seat, not the illegals.
For those who question "how do you know their illegals?" Like our County attorney who won't accept that as a reason to enforce the new employer sanctions law, I ask, when does this government give out work visas for needed painters? I don't think so. The work visas are for farm workers and other specialized employment, but painters?
This was a very frustrating and annoying situation to be around them for 8 hours today.
It also kind of indicates that they're not very afraid of losing their jobs under the new law either.Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...

Call the hotline. Are they coming back?

Paige, I'm in Pima County, not Maricopa. There's no hotline.

I know the feeling
Even with the new law in Arizona..How and to whom are complaints made? How can a person protect themselves from retaliation?
Maybe someone on Alipac can do some research on this issue and start posting it..all over the net so people who do want to complain will know how to do it..

ICE has a hotline where you can call anonymously no matter where you are. It is 1-866-347-2423. I use it on a regular basis. In Miami Dade County police officers are not allowed to ask immigration status even though they can tell a person is an illegal. Many of them and officers from other departments with similar policies have been calling this line anonymously on a regular basis. I feel as many others do that it is our responsiblity to report illegals.

If it were me I would call Sheriff Joe in Maricopa co. anyway and ask what you should do.

Ice only rushes out on calls when fugitives or violent criminals are involved. They also deal with those in jails in Florida as many have immigration holds which means they finish their sentence and then get removed by ICE from the country. Then they go after other illegals. Keep the name of the company they work for as they may have many others on the payroll which would make ICE get involved. I have called on numerous occassions and on some of the calls they acted on fairly quickly. One example would be the cleaners and maintenance people in my condo complex.
