    Georgia Immgration Rally

Protesters rally at the capitol to denounce support for state bills yet to pass legislation which aim to crack down on illegal immigration, Thursday, March 24, 2011, in Atlanta. JOHN AMIS

ATLANTA — Thousands have gathered at the Georgia Capitol to protest legislation that targets illegal immigrants in the state.

Folk rock duo the Indigo Girls on Thursday performed their song "Shame on You" with lyrics adapted for the rally.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, a leader in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, urged the crowd to fight. He said "I was beaten, left bloody, but I didn't give up and you must not give up."

Georgia Republicans are pushing ahead with immigration bills even as lawmakers in Arizona, which passed a tough law last year, take a timeout amid business community concerns about the issue's economic impact.

Sponsors of the Georgia legislation say the bills are necessary to fight illegal immigration since the federal government hasn't solved the problem.

If Ice would start to bust heads at these protests and demand ID , you'd see them stopped in a second

"They" turn out in droves every time. Those of us who would counter protest or support such legislation seem to be absent. Could it be that we are at work and they don't work? Guess our tax dollars are supporting them...

So we have a US Rep. urging violence? He must have been a part of the Malcom X civil rights movement.

    Rally Protests Ga. Immigration Bills
Updated: Thursday, 24 Mar 2011, 6:23 PM EDT

ATLANTA - The issue of immigration reform is heating up once again at the state capitol.

A big rally is underway at the state capitol. It's a protest against proposed Arizona-style laws dealing with illegal immigration.

Members of several immigrant, religious, civil rights groups and students are protesting two bills still under consideration in the state legislature.

They are calling House Bill 87 and Senate Bill 40 "Arizona copycat laws.'

The bills would allow police to check the immigration status of certain suspects and would require businesses to use a federal program called eVerify to confirm the status of newly hired employees.

Supporters say something has to be done to curb the rising tide of illegal immigration and the resulting drain of state services.

D.A. King of the Dustin Inman Society says says the legislation will cut down on illegal immigration.

The protesters claim the bills will harm Georgia's economy, encourage racial profiling and hurt families.

If only these Georgians knew-that should illegals get what they want and become the majority in America, they are not going to keep being nice to those outside "the race" who are duped into thinking by helping illegals they are promoting human justice. And I GUARANTEE a Latino majority with this ideology would hurt families (that's OUR families, that is) and encourage racial profiling-against whites, blacks and anyone else that doesn't fit their "good enough" mindset...including patriotic Latinos who don't support "the race" destroying all of our lives.
