    LOST

I paid $3000 for my mother and I to get our visa's traded into a Green Card, Work Visa, and Travel Documents. I applied with an immigration lawyer about a month ago. I still haven't received my case number or anything stating that the government actually received my papers. I called up the USCIS today only to find out that because I'm Canadian that my papers are being pushed back so the Gomes can get their work visa and student visa when no one is sponsoring them. The lady on the phone told me that it would take 3 months just to get a case number, then after those 3 months I have to wait another 3 months just to get a work visa. In the 1st 90 days from when I applied I have to pay once again for a temporary work visa... Different from the one I applied for, so I can still try to keep my hopes up of having a job with my local Police Department. I accused the supervisor and the workers at the USCIS of allowing hispanics to get their papers faster than other people. The supervisor hung up on me.

I don't know where to complain or what to do anymore. No one will listen to me because I'm from Canada. I wrote letters to congress and the president and got nothing back at all so far. I'm about to call up CNN and FOX news. Maybe they can help me.

    That is just plain wrong!
I will write the president, and also my two senators as to your situation.
    Hopefully someone will listen.

Can your Canadian Consulate help if there is one in your area? If not, have you considered contacting your Canadian Embassy in Washington for assistance?

I doubt that it is the case that they won't "listen" to you because you are from Canada. The president and congress have no sway nor intention to get involved in these type of matters. Your best best is to keep pressuring your limmigration lawyer who has been paid to provide you with service.

Last time I was in the American Consulate in Toronto, I was denied access into the USA to see my father who has a green card at that time. Anyways the Consulate said that there was no way a 16 year old could get a visitor's visa for a week or even go to high school while my father was stuck in Florida. So I highly doubt that they'd help me in this situation.

Our immigration system sucks. My dad applied for his citizenship back on November 13, 2006. He has been a citizen since Oct 26th of 2007. The USCIS website page where you can check your status through your case number says this today...

    "Case received and pending"

The USCIS supervisor I talked to today said that their website gets updated every 2 weeks. Sad how they lie so much to people.

My suggestion was that you contact a Canadian Consulate or embassy here in the United States since you are a Candian citizen. However, since you've hired an immigration lawyer, probably Zeezil is correct in stating that everything related to this matter now should be his/her job.

I wish my immigration lawyer would help me out, but my parents only paid him the money to file the papers. He will not get involved in anything else. I called him up before on my father's behalf and asked him to call up the USCIS and he wouldn't.
