Recall our Senators
Is there a way to start recalling our Senators who voted against American citizens? I am so mad at Sheldon Whitehouse here in RI, he turned on those who put him in office. He voted for the Dream Act. His staff told me he was proud and deeply motivated to support these children. I want his ass out of office now, not 4 years from now. How is a recall started?

There are only a handful of states that have formal procedures defined to recall certain Federal elected representatives (my state has some provision for this). I don't recall if RI is one of them, but generally speaking, the process requires floating recall petitions among the public, gathering the need threshold # of signatures within a defined time limit (typical is 60-90 days).
Should that be achieved, the handing becomes varied according to the specifics of each state, but involves fielding a public referendum / vote on the subject. The outcome of that vote is what decides to pull the official or not.
(The above grossly generalized, but is a generic/typical overview)
In short, the process is available in a minority of states, and when available, it is a fairly involved process. If the person you have in mind is NOT up for reelection in 2008, then they *might* be a suitable candidate for such procedure. If they are up in 2008, then forget it - the process would probably never be completed in time... (Note: all the above is IIRC of course).
Here's a link that may have some good info about the subject:

Also, note the difference between a "recall" and a formal "impeachment" - one is legal, the other is political in nature...Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Florida Senator Mel Martinez Is Supporting Amnesty For Undocumented Illegal Immigrants
Comprehensive Immigration Reform has Become the Goal of Senator Mel Martinez
However Senator Mel Martinez was quite vocal in his opposition to any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants during his 2004 campaign here in Florida. It was the main reason many Republicans fought so hard to get him elected. Here are the Senator's own words from the campaign: "Our immigration policy should first and foremost ensure the security of our great Nation and those individuals posing a terrorist threat should be prevented from entering our country. I strongly oppose amnesty for illegal aliens; our immigration laws should not reward lawlessness."

RE: Mell recall
How many signatures are required? I signed and distributed printed petitions in Palm Beach. Is there a time frame?

I recruited about three here and got even more to call so you would be surprised how easy it is. I live in liberal N. CA and it is very liberal here, but this is an issue we have come together on. I don't think Boxer and Feinstein would believe some of the conversations I'm having with my liberal and some are way left but not on this issue. Unfortunately Florida has no provisions to recall Senators. The petition that you are signing is symbolic in nature. However, there are citizens initiatives that become constitutional amendments that can be put on the ballot in Florida. Once there are enough signatures for the initiative it can be put on the ballot. If it gets 60% of the vote then it becomes law (used to be 50% but it changed last election). That is how we got the class size amendment passed. That is also how gambling was able to be voted on in the first place in Broward and Dade Counties.
As far as I am aware there was supposed to be a group somewhere that was working on an initiative to recall Senators. God knows we could use it. The real fight starts after the initiative is passed and the powers that be try to water it down or get the people themselves to vote to reverse it as Jeb tried to do with class size.

i would love to build a site for this
here is the idea you have all the legislators who are a problem. listed in a database
people sign up and when they do it populates a list of the problem legislators in there state. or locality
once they see the list it asks simply if we issued a petition to recall this legislator would you sign it?
if they check yes them it adds there name to the list.
once we reach say 10% over goal the system triggers and the petition gets filed if we choose to. once approved it is issued to all of the listed people and they simply sign it and send it back.
in theory you could have a senator screw you and within a week have enough signatures to demand a recall.
doing it this way causes 2 things
it gives us complete control of when to trigger a recall. we can use it as leverage to force senators and local officials to do what we want imagine if boxer and fienstine were to see that we had more then enough people in the system to start the recall process if we decided to? each legislator has a numeric score.
the score represents the people who will sign a petition.
instant recall! we could then draft a recall petition at will if they stab us in the back
time lines would no longer be an issue.
fienstine looks at the page and sees that 200,000 people have signed on to recall her if we choose to do so. knowing it would only take 150,000 she would have no choice but to start taking us seriously.
imagine the uproar if we could file petition on every senator that voted for cloture and a week later the press said recalls are being issued and it looks like they have the numbers to make it happen on all of them.

I called and told them to move to Cuba or Mexico where their alligence is .
I'd rather see them living in Darfur but would settle for the first two .
We could go to all the websites against illegals and ask them all to send letters to their offices asking them to get out or be tried for treason .
We need a law firm that would bring them up on treason charges . Or at the least sedition .
