I thought Romney directly hired a company that used illegals and I thought I read that he kept them even after being informed they were working illegals - am I right?
Tancredo hired a contractor to do work, that contractor hired a sub contractor that used illegals - a little bit different.
I'm not excusing either - but we all have been that close or closer to illegals - workwise.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

When he found out the second time
He fired the company

Romney "fired the landscaper for his suburban Boston home after learning for a second time about undocumented workers laboring on the property, the Associated Press reported...[he] said in a statement that he had given the contractor a second chance and termed the recurrence of hiring illegal immigrants “disappointing and inexcusable.â€

The biggest reason Ron Paul is not polling as high as he should is because the polls are calling registered Republicans who voted in the last elections. Now we all know that many Republicans sat out the 2004 election because they wouldn't vote for Bush again, and even MORE sat out the mid-terms. The only Republicans left on the roster are all hard-core Bushbots. Globalist cheerleaders for the war in Iraq, rubbing their hands together gleefully at the thought of going into Iran. Ron Paul doesn't attract them.
Ron Paul attracts all the REST of us.
He also attracts MOST of the independents and conservative Democrats.

12-18-2007, 09:39 PM #15He may now have some of the toughest immigration ideas out of the front runners, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he has a good record on immigration. Yes, he vetoed the bill for illegals to get benefits. He didn't veto the bill to give illegals licenses, he publicly came out and opposed it. Big deal, anyone can come out and publicliy oppose a bill.Mitt Romney
Has some problems to overcome with his religion and
globalist tendencies , By far has the best record on immigation
out of all the so called "front runners" but has past actions
to back up his tough on illegals stance
IMO Romney most likely did this because he knew full well that immigration is a federal issue and he wouldn't be under too much pressure from voters in his liberal state.
And as you well know, he supported last year's amnesty bill S. 2611 and went as far as to criticize anyone who stood against "the president's bill".
But, this year he opposed the S. 1639 amnesty bill. Again, Romney flip floppery.
It's funny how many people want to hurry up and call someone an isolationist because they believe in their ideal of our great country.
Anyone who can freely call a patriot an isolationist is an idiot.
You claim to look at the real world and the larger picture, but you seem to keep forgetting the big picture on romney, and that is that the changes his stance almost as fast as hillary. His past voting record is what makes people nervous. And yes, there are some concerned with his religion as well, but the fact that he is two faced along with a political history to prove this fact is the biggest reason we shouldn't support him.
You have also stated that deportation of that many illegals isn't possible. Well, it is possible. If Eisenhower deported over 3 million illegals in the 50's, with less than half of the transportation capability we have now, we can do it now.
Now, realistically I agree that massive deportations won't happen. But regardless of whoever the next president is, deportations must continue to let the world know that America is going to enforce their immigration laws. All illegals found, whether they have a felony record or not, must be deported when they are caught.
It's quite obvious that the MSM has picked their favorites and will endorse them. Dr. Paul is purposely getting ignored because folks in DC are afraid of him.
I do not believe pulling out of Iraq would show us as weak. The Russians had to pull out of Afghanistan after their 10+ year fiasco of trying to control the Afghanis, and they didn't appear to weak at all.
He may get boos now from folks regarding his stance on the war, but when another four years has passed by and our troops are still there, America will think differently.
Americans seem to forget that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Iraq is all about son cleaning up dad's mess, and protecting America's oil interests.
Another sad fact is that we will have troops over there for a very long time. Personally, I see this being our second Vietnam because simply can't defeat an enemy who has no regard for other lives, especially their own. Terrorist attacks will continue against the US forces in Iraq as long as we are there.
The war, along with other unnecessary government expenditures are some of the main forces driving America into bankruptcy. What good will it do to have our troops overseas if we can't support them financially and America is bankrupt?"Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results is the definition of insanity. " Albert Einstein.

I expected Glenn to be very hostile, but I didn't see that in the interview. I thought it was a very good showing for Dr. Paul.

We should focus resources on deporting the most dangerous of the 600,000 or so illegal alien fugitives, and enforce the laws/cut off the jobs, benefits etc.; reduce the number of illegals over time through attrition.

12-18-2007, 10:10 PM #19I was channel surfing a few months ago and saw a lengthy interview with Ron Paul on PBS (which I watch on the rare occasion) where he outlined his stances in detail.

I hope after this interview others will start inviting him too.
Glenn's rates must have increased a lot .
At the beginning I was scared that Glenn would be rude with him but aftter a while I found it very profitable.
