LETTER: Illegal immigrants are criminals

Illegal immigrants are criminals

Legal immigration, yes. Illegal aliens, no.

If the mayor's office and The Standard-Times haven't noticed, it is a crime to enter into the United States illegally.

In the short term, these immigration criminals steal jobs away from citizens. In the long term, illegal immigration brings with it a long trail of unsavory activity.

One grave concern is the involvement of illegal aliens in predatory practices. Operation Predator, an initiative of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has brought about the arrest of 6,085 child predators, 85 percent of whom were in the United States illegally.

If these simple statistics aren't concerning enough, there is a sinister presence following the illegal aliens who are seeking employment — gangs.

A May 5, 2005 Washington Times article cited FBI gang task force director Robert Clifford. He said, "MS-13, which has a significant presence in the Washington D.C. area, and other gangs are spreading into small towns and suburbs by following illegal aliens seeking work in places such as Providence, R.I. and the Carolinas. The migrant moves and the gangs follow." MS-13 is a hyper-violent gang. One of MS-13's calling cards is machete attacks.

As for the illegal alien who is here working, I find it hard to believe that they care about America. If these jobs that they follow disappear, they won't stay. They will deport themselves and, along with them, their difficult-to-deal-with problems.

As for the mayor and the local newspaper, they should both step down. Resign please, if this is how you want to treat us, the American citizen.

Perhaps it's time for the city of New Bedford to elect a Republican mayor. Perhaps it's time to start another newspaper, a paper that doesn't thumb us in the eye every time there's a social issue on the table — one that is pro-America.

The mayor's office and The Standard-Times should take a breather from romanticizing the illegal alien as if these were the days of the Underground Railroad. It's not. They should stop trying to mold public opinion by shamelessly presenting these criminal immigrants as "struggling masses yearning to be free." They are not. If they were, they would have entered the country legally like my grandparents. In reality, the illegal migrant worker in New Bedford is the tip of the spear. They are the point that opens the armor of America in order for the rest of the spear to be driven through.
